Sent the scan gauge off to be tested by Linear Logic. I feel like I’m driving blind without having it on my dash. I did not realize how much I looked at it.

I received the Scangauge back along with a note that indicated they replaced the circuit board and gave me a new cord and that the unit should now only draw 5 mA. I have yet to put it back in, but I will let everyone know if it is fixed. Kudos to Linear Logic for making the repair or at least checking it out for me.

I picked up a SG ina group buy mid Octoberish I believe. And few weeks ago my 2015 battery I notice to get weaker and weaker, finally one day it was dead. I was curious if it was the SG but never researched it. Now I have a feeling it is.

I would chek your system to see what the draw actually is. I used it for years, without issue. Now that I know how easy it is to see what your truck draws at rest, I would recommend doing a baseline with certain items plugged in or taken off the system.

It’s baaaaaaaack. I had the same no start issue as before. After charging my battery and doing the same parasitic draw test as before, it’s the scan gauge, or I should say, it has to do with the scan gauge. I should have done the test when I first installed it, but I was just happy to be driving again with my gauges up and running. I’m going to call and talk to Linear logic and get more details on the repair of my SC and try to borrow another one or other obdII scanners and see if it’s my OBDII port, any scan gauge, or just my scan gauge.

Any updates on this? I just experienced something weird with my newly installed ScanGauge. Had it installed for a week without issues. Then suddenly, the ScanGauge started turning off on it's own while the engine was running. I would press the bottom right button and it would wake up. Screen went off again. Tried "waking" it maybe 3-5 more times and my speedometer needle began jumping up and down, ABS and traction lights turned on and stayed on until I turned off the car and started it back up. This happened 3 times in one day, but surprisingly it didn't do this during my morning commute today. I reached out to Linear Logic and they said they're sending me a "custom cable". This is on my 2014 4Runner.

That is strange. No, I have not plugged it back in since I realized it was draining the battery again. I need to run a test with another scan gauge to see if it’s just mine or all of them, or if it’s my OBDII connection. I’ll let you know what I find out.

Update: I bought another Scan gauge II to try it out and it is drawing the same amount of extra mA. I tried combinations of new cable/first SCII, old cable/new SCII...it’s the same issue. Now I need to try another type of code reader and see if it’s the same, then check my actual OBDII plug.

I tried an ultra gauge and there was not an issue with drawing too many mA at rest. However, when we plugged my Scan Gauge 2 into my friend’s 98 4runner, boom, 80 plus mA being drawn. This leads me to believe that on at least on 1st gen Tacomas and 3rd gen 4runners, Scan Gauges draw too much power at rest. I’ll be disconnecting it when parked, camping, or I don’t feel like having a dead battery. I emailed Linear Logic. I’ll update if I hear back.
