the ones doing that in our area don't really have a "shop" or true business for that matter. they are "mobile tinters" that come to your house/work and tint you car in your driveway. how it looks is how it looks. no warranty or fixing anything they fuck up. its the tinters like this that give the rest of us a bad rep. it pisses me off really.

we have a really good customer, and I mean he has been having us tint his cars for the past 8 years I have been there. he always begs us to do his windshield in 20. so we never do anything but the sides and back. he takes it to another guy for the windshield. that guy can't tint for shit so his car winds up looking like, well, shit. the last one we tinted a couple months ago. he has had his windshield tinted 4 times by 4 different people. it still looks like shit and has trash all in it with creases everywhere. he wants us to redo it but unless he is willing to go lighter we refuse.

There is freedom, then there is idiocy. tinting the windshield falls squarely in the latter (especially if it's dark tint). And you gotta try a bit harder than throwing communism out there.

Meh. It wasn’t dangerous in the slightest. I do 30% now and it’s much better.

I’m just giving you shit lol, relax.

My fiancées GX 460 has 70% on the windshield and the inspector didn’t even notice it last month...like Jimmy said, you can’t even tell it’s there - but the benefits of the UV protection and heat rejection are incredible with a good ceramic film.

at least not until you run over someone...when I was younger I might would have agreed with you. the older you get the worse your eyes get. I hate to admit that as I don't feel old at 44, but I can't see near as good at night anymore.

Ask your State DMV on tint laws. You may or may not be good.

I'm just above my state limits at 30% front and 20% rear. Tint is my favorite mod I've done. I wouldn't go beyond what is legal though personally, no need to give cops a reason to pull you over.

I’ve been running dark windows for years and only got a ticket for it once (by a DOT officer nonetheless)...that’s because it was a bright red, loud, gt mustang and I was hauling ass on the way to get some ass LOL

He didn’t ticket me for anything other than the windows. Ripped it off, took it by a patrol station so they could say it was gone, and the ticket was dropped.

I think most of them have better things to do. There is always that one though. They do like the flashy vehicles too though, I had a yellow jeep with moderate mods and got pulled over for petty crap from time to time. I still do the same petty crap in my Tacoma and never get a second look.

You do know there are more benefits to window tint than just darkening the windows, right?

Yes absolutely. But having it that dark on your windshield will be fun for your insurance company not to help you out in case of accident. I have seen claims denied for stuff like this(best friend is an insurance agent). I live on a tropical island and don’t see the benefits out-weighting the cost if something happens for me to put dark tent on my windshield. It’s your truck do what you want to do. You’ve been on TW long enough to know you’re going to roasted for putting a thread like this up. Safety first and foremost in my book.

I’m all about freedoms. Just cause you can do something doesn’t mean you should. Most people can’t see me on a motorcycle without tinted windows let along going 5%. Whatever is said, at night it’s dangerous and irresponsible. God I sound old. I once was that guy running 5% over factory tint. Perception changes when people try to kill you when your on a bike. Freedoms are not freedoms when other people are put in harms way.

Windshields may only have tint on the top 5 inches (AS1 line) and must not be reflective. Truck, SUV, and Vans must have a VLT of 35% on front windows and can have any darkness on the back and rear windows. North Carolina allows reflective tint, however, windows must be no more than 20% reflective.

    California

Windshield: Non-reflective tint is allowed on the top 4 inches of the windshield. Front Side windows: Aftermarket film must allow more than 88% of light in, or minimum 70% VLT if combined with factory-tinted windows. Back Side windows: Any darkness can be used. Rear Window: Any darkness can be used.

So, apparently NC is not quite as communist as CA
