    I get it. It just seems counter to everything we’ve done here. I think I read the new bad boy Cameros have some exhaust “box” that is quiet at low rpm and things change when you’re standing on it.

    My job is loud all day too working on the railroad, it can kill. I guess I miss the stock exhaust with the supercharger whine only. I loved that setup, just not the slowness that went with plugged exhaust. Factory high performance sport cars are quiet and I sure we can reproduce that.

    The flip side is that my exhaust set up now is really great sounding especially when you’re on it everywhere. I really don’t know why I’m tripping. I think it’s just that I still want a few decibels quieter. I would have never said that years ago when my ears were fresh. The majority here would trip on me and tell me I’m crazy for wanting what I have to be a little quieter if they drove with me! It really does sound great.

    Mine sounded great, too. Just too much volume for my ears. I notice when I get some quiet for a week or so, my tinnitus isn’t as bad. The constant ringing is annoying.

    There is an exhaust setup that is on some Corvettes, I think its made by Borla. There are 4 tailpipes with butterfly valves in 2. You push a button and you control actuators that open or close the inner 2 pipes. I'm curious what the db level is for each of our setups...
    Well, off to find db reading device lol.

    Got a drill? :D Increasing volume is easy.
    Making a system that is quiet with no drone, has exceptional sound quality, and is as free flowing as a loud system is the challenge.

    I know the stock Corvette and maybe the high hp Camaro's come with that from the factory. I dont remember how they are actuated but I believe its ecu controlled (maybe also manual). When the butterfly opens it essentially makes the muffler a straight pipe.

    You’re one of only two people in this thread that I know of who would be able to pick up what I’m puttin’ down. ;)

    I love it. It’s so quiet on the freeway. But I’m currently running the stock y-pipe, so it’s not an apples to apples comparison.

    Only reason I put the stock y-pipe on was that it mates up perfectly with the TRD exhaust without needing to mod anything. The JFR pipe will go back on probably during spring break when I’ll have some extended garage time available.

    @Roostfactor would there be a huge disadvantage to lengthening the y-pipe a bit to accommodate two 59905 cats before the merge?

    Those are the offset cats I was referring to.
    My original theory was not wanting anything obstructing the y-pipe tubing to preserve the scavenging effect. The cats may decrease some unknown amount of scavenging effect but no way to know unless we test.
    The added length to the y-pipe should lower the optimal rpm range. I have been wanting to try this to see how power delivery is affected.

    I’ve had tinnitus since I was a young boy. My father was a radio station DJ when I was a baby. He had a passion for music that he passed along to me. My dad always had a bad ass stereo system in his cars and in the house, so consequently my ears have suffered over the years.
