You can, but I would suggest doing the full fluid check since you're unsure of the exact amount that came out. A lot of the transmissions come low on fluid from the factory, so it's a good thing to check while you're down there.
It has a picture or two in the thread showing how it is done. You just sticking the ends in the holes to po ht the truck in the correct mode

Ok I grabbing 4qts to be safe I doubt I’ll need all that, I’ll start with 3qt. Ok I didn’t know if u needed one clip to stick in both holes or two separate paper clips.

Thank you guys I’m losing my mind over this.

Oh! And dont get so wrapped up in the transmission that you forget about the engine oil! Not sure how far your neighbor got on the oil change but hopefully he didnt put any oil in it yet.

Thank you, I made sure, that was the only thing done. He said he stopped as soon as he saw the red fluid.

I know... I’m studying this write up. While I’m waiting for another friend to drop off fluids and what not.

Are you SURE he drained the trans fluid?
Did you ask him to show you where/what plug he removed?
After he drained the (???) fluid, did you check the oil dip stick and see there is no oil on it?
Did you/him add oil after he drained the "oil"?
Are you able to work a bit on the truck before start changing any other fluids?
    - and, did you have any affairs with neighbor's wife, sister, daughter, cat?

When you shift back and forth from d to n for 6 seconds, do you stop at 6 seconds to see if the d flashes twice ? Do you have to be exact? Just curious if I’m at n when the d is supposed to flash. Just wondering if I have to be precise with the shifting to get the d flashing?

Yes I’m sure he showed me, I did check oil dip stick , there was oil on it. No oil added or removed. He’s going to help me fill the fluid. No affairs lol

Yes, you can just refill the transmission with what was taken out. However, that requires trusting the level being correct in the first place.

It took me a couple times following the procedure to get the computer into test mode. If it doesn’t go into test mode the first time just start over. I believe you have a 15 degree F window where you can drain the fluid from the overflow port so you have to be relatively quick with it. And watch out for the exhaust pipes while you’re under the rig.
