No, black powder coat straight from CBI.

It's funny you asked that. As an experiment I'm going to fully heavy coat a raw piece of steel and leave it outside to see how it holds up to sun/rain over time.

Being water based I suspect it won't tolerate it.

 

@Casper66 did his bumper in a undercoating or bedliner like this I was asking if this was the same stuff he did his bumper in. He doesn't own CBI stuff runs SOS Concepts.

I used Hippo Liner tintable bedliner. It also comes black but even for black we use the tintable it has way better UV protection

You should check out the rack he's built and stuff! Plus he used that bedliner stuff thought it was the same stuff you used. Kinda has some of the same ingenuity as you!

 

I just started readig this. IDK if I identify as an overlander but t least it is something to aspire to. Sounds like he lives somewhere over where my FIL does.

 

As the crow flys not far. With the same roads we've always had and how bad traffic has gotten, 1 hr 15min.

 

Nice area, about like where I live up here in Va. We are right in the foothills of the mountains. Pretty nice spot I'm up in the mountains in 15-20 minutes yet I can be in the Outer Banks of NC in 4 hours or so.

 

I can appreciate the design of this rack. So many simply want to mount all that weight to the bed rails yet going strait to the bed bolts and haveing the frame support the weight is much safer and productice relieving the stress from the bed sides.

 

No bed spread here.

 

My weakness. I don't mind doing it and I like it to be very sanitary but I just dont know that much about it. I muddle through but nothing like this sculpture.

 

This is why most arond our area look down on my truck because it's not some kinda rock crawler or something. I build based on our needs. You have to look at both my builds combined to get the picture. The truck and the camper together. It is meant to function more as a unit for our adventures. As of now we are completely self sufficient. There are more things being done with the camper and truck this spring which all deveoped from taking it out and seeing what we needed.

 

I want to see this myself. A roof rack is something that will help with storage for longer trips. I just haven't reached that point yet. I have been more focussed on the camper and self sufficiency needs.

 

This weather is killing me. I've got 16 weekends til my trip, I've got a very strict iternary so I can get everything completed in time. In those 16 weekends there are only 4 unused/alternate weekends. Luckily I was able to salvage this weekend or I'd be down to 3. I know some unforeseen items are going to come up so I need that buffer.

The first completely dry forecasted weekend coming up I'm taking a 4 day weekend so I can uninstall the subwoofer enclosure/amp rack, build fridge platform and back wall power distribution rack, and paint.

The start of the roof rack build/install will be the very next dry weekend after the above.

 

Great build so far OP. It appears we have similar goals just a different approach. If you haven't settled on a specific fridge yet check out the IndelB's. We did a fair amount of research as we aren't locked into what is most popular and find what will work best for us. We got the TB51 and have been nothing but pleased with it so far. You know how this works though we got the fridge and then that snowballed into a bunch of different mods to the camper to get this to function how we wanted it to. It's perfect for us I did go ahead and spring for the cover and drawer slide for it as the list of mods had compiled on me and just didn't feel like taking the time to build a slide.
