    Working on them
Look more worn and cracking due to age those been on since 2013 that's 5 years now and that not really that long... take a look at the manufacture's date and see when made.

No it’s completely normal. Typically called “ozone cracking” unless you’re lucky enough to park in a garage, it’ll happen. You’re tires do have quite a few years on them.

Polar vortex is just a cool name for normal winter in some of the world. The tires are 5 or 6 years old, they just need to be replaced due to age. Pick a tire you like that has decent reviews, pretty much anything will work for Chicago.

In order for you to answer that question (nobody should be answering that kind of question for you), it may help for you to think about the internal construction of the tires.

So look at all those plies and belts in there, and look at the relationship between the tread (rubber that on yours is cracked), and the belting, and the liner. You now have some information that you can use to decide for yourself whether or not to keep driving on those tires with cracks in the treads.

I’m not meaning to be rude in anyway, but how would normal weather in the north effect your tires in south California?

The dry rot is from exposure to sunlight. Perfectly normal for 6 year old tires in states like Florida and Arizona that are kept outside in the sun all time. If that were my tire I'd replace it soon. I'd like to see more of the sidewall before I could say for sure though. It might not be as bad as I think, or it may be worse. Most experts recommend tires about every 6 years regardless of tread. And the date code on the tire should be used. That is when they were made, not when they were purchased.

But where you live matters too. A vehicle kept in a garage or in a northern climate might still be good for much longer than 6 years. In many southern states, much less than 6 years.
