they look very good and using projector lenses should focus the LED light properly, basically someone needs to test them to see if the performance is as stated by the manufacturer.

The only LED's any of those headlights are designed for are the angle eyes and DRL's. The low beam projectors/high beams are for halogens.

It appears that they come with cheap halogen bulbs and need to be replaced with LEDs immediately?

Ok, i looked on the spyder website and it says that using a LED bulb will void the warranty. I'm not seeing any headlight units that are actually made for LED bulbs. this seems to be a PITA

Any LED headlight made for LEDs will not have a changeable LED bulb. The headlight will be a completely sealed unit, with built in LEDs, like the $1200+ Morimoto LED headlights. There are no legitimate drop in LEDs because they don’t work, so no manufactures will ever build a headlight for them. Instead they will design a proper LED headlight housing which requires a fully integrated built in LED.

Are you looking for replacement housings with LED light sources or are you looking for replacement housings that give you better lighting? There's a big difference between those two. Everybody seems to be running to jump on the LED band wagon, but most don't understand that you don't always end up with better lighting. In fact in many cases all you end up with is expensive lights that don't put much usable light on the ground and end up with moisture in them.

After reading and researching in the last few days, it looks like LED isn't the way to go. Not yet, anyway.

The only proper led units are $1k +

I think I'll just look for a decent new halogen replacement I'm really not for messing with the wiring atm

I was hoping you might come to that conclusion. If you want my 2 cents, even though there are a ton of aftermarket / replacement housings out there, none of them really measure up to OEM when it comes to quality, optics and resistance to oxidation / water intrusion. That said, you might want to check out the following thread. Not only does it detail a really, really effective upgrade you could do using OEM assemblies, but it also gives you the part numbers for said housings. Enjoy!
