I did it a short time ago and just used a 1/8" male pipe thread X 1/4" barb fitting in the diff. and a 1/8" female pipe thread X 1/4" hose barb.
Reused the vent fitting in the new location.

When I removed the vent fitting there seemed to be some pressure in the diff when it came out????

Is the stock fitting bad news and that is why everyone uses the one in the how to?

I took a slightly different approach. Instead of putting the breather end near the place I would knock it around with the gas nozzle at each fill up, I put it on the inside.

I like yours and it is better than than inside the door since it would likely take more time for water to get there (pocket of air in there) than it would in the fuel door.

    Good CALL!:)

but if you plow into water, dont you think the inner fender will take the brunt of "the wave"? even so, i'll probably zip tie mine to the inside as well.

Are you telling me I have my head up my butt on this one? It might be and you may be right since we don't have a fender liner like we do up front - My thoughts are how Toyota have placed our engine intake in the same part of our front fenders and it forms a small air pocket. :)

I think it would have to take a lot of constant water spray and a lot of water before it had an effect. Considering where it was before on the diff itself and never had a problem there i think anywhere else is going to be fine

I think if water gets to the depth of your gas filler, you're way more fucked than a diff breather location, so inside vs. outside is kinda moot...

Wow Paul... are you trying to play 'Neal Johns' with your '09? So, unless you had 3,000 pounds in the bed, why did it give?

Alright so I did some inspecting a while back to confirms some things about our breathers. i noticed in the early pages of this thread people are mistakenly saying that the transmission breather is located right next to the front diff breather in the engine bay on the driver's side fender well. I have been told and have also confirmed that this is the Front Diff and ADD breather(Automatic Differential Disconnect). if you follow the lines down you will see what i'm talking about.

Anyways i spent a while searching around with a flashlight as best i could and i can not for the life of me find the breathers for the transfer case or the transmission! does anyone have any information on this? its been a while but someone told me to look on the firewall behind the engine but i didnt see a breather anywhere.

I would really like to know where they are, how about you?

I have a 2.7 stick. There are two breathers on the engine bay on the driver's side. I ass u me d they were for the trans and front diff but never traced them.

I personally think I had a FOD (foreign object damage). I think it was probably my fault completely! Especially when I see the wear pattern of the gear set up. I do like the idea that my set up was warrantied by ECGS! Thank god! :)

Picked up 6 feet of the exact same yellow tube at Lowe's today... Will order the parts next time I go near the dealer... I noted a second part number for the union mentioned in an earlier post here. Will either one work on my 2010? I wrote down #90404-51319 for the 'union' and #90930-03136 for the 'breather'.

What I am not 100% clear on (yet) is why can't we use the breather that is on the differential now, and put it at the end of the tube? Is the replacement a 2 way breather valve vs. the 1 way breather that is on it now? With 6 feet of 3/8" ID tube to suck air from not enough if a 1 way valve is at the end?

    Thanks!
