ABS plastic pipe is common at hardware stores, but it's the wrong shape. you'll need to find a bit of flat section to fill in the gap. it doesn't have to be perfect 'cause you'll be finishing it off with the putty. i'm sure you can find something around the house or the hardware store to fit the bill. just test the epoxy on the plastic before you put all the work in shaping it to make sure it'll bond the material you want to work with.

im thinking going this route, gonna do the bottom as well.. quick question, does grillcraft have a stronger/more solid mesh than some other generic mesh.. I want a grill that doesnt get bent easily when you hit a bit solid

gc makes a solid product, you won't be disappointed. i can't comment on mesh though, 'cause i never checked any out. if cash isn't an issue, go with the gc.

When painting behind the "Satoshi" grill is there anything that is not ok to be painted? I don't want to paint something that could hinder functionality.

Ok, for some reason I haven't bumped into any grillcraft and/or satoshi thread before, and I THOUGHT I've seen it all by now lol.
    I want! NOW! :)

What's the diff between this method and 'satoshi'? Where do I go? Is the mesh hand cut to fit the grill, and where do I get it? I'm loving this result.

This is a satoshi. He just didn't use fiberglass cloth, he used pieces of the center section that you cut out.

You can go to a local metal shop and get some mesh material or get some from http://www.customcargrills.com/

Depends on what material you use, how you'd cut it.

Gotcha. Thanks. I wondered about the level of DYI on this one since there is also a grillcraft.com site floating around where you can buy it (fully done?).
Anyway, I looked at customcargrills.com and now I wonder what mesh to get.

if you want to recess (satoshi) the grillcraft or mesh, you'll probably need the weekend because you'll need to patch and finish the holes left in the grill surround when you cut the two plastic cross pieces out of it.

if you simply want to install the grillcraft flush at the front of the grill surround, it will fit perfectly and will only take about 1/2 hour to install if you have the right tools. you wouldn't need to patch and finish the holes because they'll be hidden behind the grillcraft unlike the satoshi version.

you don't have to use a grillcraft if you find another type of mesh you like better. personally, i like how the gc looks and know it's a solid product

Thanks. So the thing that makes it a Satoshi is the recessed mounting. I like that though. I got time. Thanks :)

This thread rocks big time. Super duper props to you guys who have done this mod.

    Unbelievable!

    I'm impressed...and I'm not easily done so.

I'm not usually one for mods of this type...but talk about an inspiration...

I also like the variations of grill materials and badging. Awesome!

If I keep this new Tacoma for a while...and get the time (between work...family...other business...trying to find time to fish...I'm also a book reader...and playing guitar...and somewhere in there I find time to eat and sleep...)...I just may give this a go.

I think I'd get another grill to work on other than the one on the truck. This would allow the time...my truck is my DD. And...I'd probably want a color matched grill instead of the chrome one that's on my truck for this mod. My opinion only.

    Again...

Super job y'all have done here...Thanks for sharing. Subscribed.
