Re-doing my fender flares (all oxidized out) so figured now would be a good time to replace those cheap worm clamps. Picked up a couple of 4" clamps at Lowes in the HVAC section. Much better quality and was able to tighten down without it clicking back on me - could even see the compression around the snorkel side and air tube side. Also took the time to wrap the outer edges of the air tube and the snorkel tube with silicone fusion tape.

Sorry, didn't bother taking pictures but for anyone about to install one of these, definitely pick up some better clamps.

Okay, so I'm a new member of Tacoma World and I guess this is as good a place as any to make my first post. There is going to be a learning curve for me here so let me apologize in advance.

I've been following this thread for quite a while now. I've always wanted a snorkel for my truck but the ARB has always been out of my reach. Actually not so much out of reach, just not wanting to spend that kind of ridiculous money for a piece of plastic. I've heard all the arguments that it's the "engineering" and the "Grade" of plastic being used and of course the classic "You get what you pay for". In a lot of cases you do get what you pay for but this is not one of them. In this case you get much more "in my opinion".

I ordered my snorkel last Wednesday 2-27 and it was at my door this morning 3-4. This kind of shipping has to be some sort of world record. I've ordered stuff from that area before and it take months sometimes. The shipping was crazy fast.

My snorkel arrived in great condition. Best I can tell all the parts are there. The snorkel and cap look great. All the mold marks are neat and clean. Everything lines up well.

I have experienced the one issue that a few others have experienced. The rubber hose that goes on the snorkel is stupid tight at the snorkel end. However I did get it on.

I did what I saw someone else had done and that was boil a big pot of water. I've used this technique in the past with other projects and its pretty effective. To add a little more to it I used a Walmart YETI knockoff cup to expand it as I boiled it. Twice I took it out of the boiling water and stuck it in the freezer to help the rubber take a set or a form if you will. The last time I took it out I slid it onto the snorkel. I put a good layer of Vaseline on both and also on the cup when I was using it to expand the tube. I also used a really dull butter knife to get it that last little bit. I started to use my radiator hose tool but was concerned that I might poke a hole in it so I opted for the butter knife method another member mentioned. It went on like butter.

Going to try and upload a few pictures to give you a better idea of how it all worked.

Should have joined Tacoma World a long time ago. I own a 96 and I'm the original owner.:)

    20190304_114602.jpg 20190304_134052.jpg

It will be at least a week or more before I'm able to finish but I'll post up when I do.:fingerscrossed:

Hey CBoy808, i know you’re busy but it’s been about a week and my excitement for a sticker is growing. This is a friendly bump to understand when we can place some orders for the sticker

That's awesome. Just seemed to be the way to go for me. I had the tube installed and the kitchen cleaned up from all the boiling before the wife got home:) She doesn't have a clue that I used one of her good pots. Now I'm waiting on a hole saw that I'll probably only use this one time. Still cheaper than the ARB:thumbsup:

Thanks for the offer. Seems I'm a good distance. I'm in N.C. (east coast) and you are in Seattle. I'm one that doesn't mind adding another tool to my box though. If nothing else it will look good hanging on the shop wall. LOL

    Thanks again for the offer

Trying to figure out now what I want to do for a badge on it. I'm not crazy at all about the one that came with it and the one I saw posted here was TRD. My trucks not a TRD so I try to keep it legit.

Worst part for me is I got the new hole saw only to use it once and after that I was in the shop looking for some zip ties and found one I bought a few years back. now I have 2... :frusty:

Don't feel bad....I do it all the time these days. I'm old and it seems to go along with being old.

TRD Off Road sticker. Not the whole package, just the sticker.
Can he make other custom stickers?

yes he can. I have had him make all sorts of odd stickers. Cool to know he can do these "badge" types. @BigMacMcCoy I bet you can swap those ProComp wheel emblems for some TRD ones or something.

He makes all sorts of custom stickers and emblems. As for the snorkel, I'm sure he can.. I just know that he told me with these TRD ones he wasn't going to do any kind of variations. He didn't say anything about not doing other custom ones though. He might decline though, just for the fact that it could open a can of worms for him. It could be hard for him to keep up with everyone wanting a different custom sticker.

True true. I wouldn't want TRD though. I've got an SR5 haha

New stickers is a good idea though!

Another member on here has made a logo that kinda resembles the Trd logo upside down. Say dyf for Drunk Yard Fab. I doubt it would open a can of worms since it's an inside joke and I'm the only first gen in the group with this snorkel, but it'd be pretty cool to get that made.
