Hey guys, just getting used to the new truck and it seems everyday I find myself having questions about things.

Anyway i'm sure as most of you already know that apple car play isn't a thing on the stock tacoma interface. This is such a bummer and feel like this is a total let down on toyotas part (I mean vehicles that are much older have applecar play)

I'm wondering if theres a way to get it? My idea that i think would work is deleting the current OS and installing a different one with the SD card? (think my other vehicle has nexus)

anyway just wondering if anybody has figured out a way to get apple car play, without deleting the current OS and installing another (if tthats even possible)

Any info on this topic would be awesome as I'm just exploring options and seeing if anything is even possible. thanks

A couple ways to mirror your phone on the radio screen, but you have to control with your phone. Otherwise you buy an aftermarket HU and get Apple/Android along with better sound.

while i agree that apple car play isnt that great, I find it ridiculous that its not a standard feature for a pretty darn new vehicle.

There is a member here that makes a harness for the HU that can mirror your iPhone or Android, plus anytime camera. Its the HAI cable. I bought one some time ago and haven't install it yet due to lack of time, but people here are very satisfied with the outcome. Do some research and get in touch with him, VERY nice guy and always willing to help!

I haven't had a vehicle with apple carplay on it, but I find for most of my purposes my jbl headunit suffices, now it would be nice if my messages worked or I could get waze on the truck's screen, but oh well..... on the other hand that new Alpine unit with the huge screen looks pretty sweet

I had it on a 17 Silverado and was very excited to find out I had it, used it maybe twice lol. Now when they do it wirelessly I will be interested but not spending thousands on a new HU.

I use the BeatSonic mirror kit and love it (http://www.beatsonicusa.com/if02aep2.html). With CarPlay you can't stream videos/movies while driving but with this you can. Works flawlessly, the only issue is you have to use your phone and can't use the touchscreen to control it. But for movies of any sort (including Netflix, Hulu, ESPN, etc.) or waze/google/apple maps it's incredible and a very easy install.

Boy do I feel I could have written what saucy/op wrote. Just bought first new vehicle of my life and with highest trim package. ( Pro). I researched and researched before pulling trigger. Never did research the HU. Just assumed it would have modern normal tech I've experienced in my rentals last several years. No Android Auto available in my 2019. I'm devastated and so disappointed in myself and Toyota. I could have waited a couple months for the 2020 no problem. On my first road trip I used the factory nav twice and it lead me twice into standstill interstate traffic and directly to tourist pedestrian zone in a city. I've owned my truck 3 days and it won't connect to my phone. I plugged in my home address and multi unrecognized road alerted on the nav. ( A problem for my foreign fiancee)

I'm more than upset about it not having Car Play. Salesman told me it did, the person doing the delivery said it did....obviously it doesn't. I have used it extensively in the last 3 cars i have had. it's such a better way to navigate, get iMessages etc. I have put the ball into the dealers court saying either put the new 2020 one into my truck, not sure it can be done and very expensive OR pay for my Kenwood Excelon, way cheaper and for me, better sound. I await their call back, but sadly don't hold out much hope either way. May have to put a call into Toyota Canada

It mirrors your phone so any apps that run when the phone is locked yes. It works off for Netflix, sports, or other movies and shows. But for GPS/maps you’ll need to keep the phone on.

Salesman told you but you never checked? I had my salesman connect my phone and show me the features before I bought my OR. Sounds to me like that’s on you.
