A member on this forum makes solid motor and trans mounts for the 4.0’s. He’s said he would make some for the 2tr if he had “at least 3 people” on board for them.

So if anyone is interested, I’d love to have a batch made for our platforms so let me know if you’re down so we get em in the works.

I read that the 2.7L doesn't have problems with the motor mounts and it's only the 4.0L that needs that modification, is this true?

I’m not sure my thinking is the less power lost through vibration/movement makes it to the rubber which can’t be bad for anybody with this motor.

My engine already shakes the shifter at idle, I don't think I would want those vibes transferred into the frame. But I'm getting old too and have less tolerance for those kinds of things. The only benefit to stiffer or solid engine/trans mounts is throttle responsiveness, so torque is more instantaneous and not slightly delayed by driveline take up. Coupled with stiffer rear springs to address axle wrap, I am sure it would be noticeably more snappy, but at the cost of extra vibrations in the cab. I put urethane mounts in my old VW GTI and it helped with the driveline reciprocation especially on hard acceleration.

You can count me in on a pair of these. Trans mount would be nice too

I think that when people talk about the motor mounts having problems, its more about the truck's frame than about the rubber mounts. 2005 and part of 2006 had a problem where the frame would cave in at the motor mounts, this required a modification (reinforcement) of the frame at the motor mount, and it mostly impacted the V6 due to torque -- the engines are actually about the same weight, but the 2TR is an iron block whereas the V6 was (and current 3.5 still is) aluminum.

Harder rubber motor mounts will conduct more engine vibrations into the frame, but will give a more positive feeling when engaging the clutch.

Solid motor/trans mounts? On a Tacoma? Seriously? If you did something to BREAK yours and they need replacing then maybe but to just throw these on is nonsense and potentially detrimental. Especially on a 2TR which is not a smooth motor by nature.

None of those are for a 4 cyl, the guy I talked to who said he’d make them makes the super duty mounts for the v6. Also not enough interest in this application, I’ve given up on this endeavor.

True but with that attitude there will never be enough aftermarket support for these motors. Know how hard it is to get a gas tank skid for a single cab? Like I said tho I’m done with this endeavor.

Mine are not broke. I was liking the sound of taking slack out of the drivetrain. I originally though of doing poly instead of rubber but saw this tread.

I think he’s just referring that the straight 4 cylinder has more vibration than the v6.in the v6 the pistons cancel out each other’s vibration to make a naturally smoother running engine.

It's absolutely normal for the 2TR to be slightly bumpy at idle as compared to say a V8 which will be smooth as silk (i'm not sure about the 6). I'm not talking about rattling your teeth here, but you should be able to feel it in the shifter.

Dang! Am I too late to this party? My 2009 2TR-FE drivetrain could use the additional support of solid mounts (motor and tcase).

    I'll keep looking!

I run solid in my '87, and love it. YES, there are some vibrations, but I like having the entire drivetrain stay put.

    Your profile says you have a 4.0 v6, which is 1GR, not 2TR (4-cyl 2.7).
