As a HAM for 20 years, that isn't accurate.

Many do. Not most. But yes, it is a desirable feature.

Very common for most dual band radios these days I'd say.

Perhaps the market has changed since I last looked. Got any recommendations, say around $200? 2m/440 at a minimum.....

Been talking with Brandon from Coastal Offroad, giving some feedback on the bumper and instructions. He's very receptive which is cool. After talking about the concerns over the thickness of the recovery points, he has offered to send me some additional plate, pre-cut to match, that I can use to beef up the recovery points at no charge other than I pay shipping. He said that he hasn't had or heard of any issues with the recovery points yet but did understand where I was coming from with my concerns. Great customer service.

Assuming you're not wanting a dual channel one with that price range? And you interested in any digital modes?

    Hiking Death Valley (Feb 2019)

Before it even began, the trip was off to a rough start. See, we'd planned - if you can call deciding to go on a trip just a few days prior to departure, "planning" - to leave two weeks earlier, but inclement weather caused us to push the trip back. Even so, the weather report was iffy just a few days before the new date - something we decided we'd ignore so we could get out and explore.

Check out the first two days in part 1 of this adventure:

My truck appears to be stuck in 4hi. Any one have any tips? I already tried pretty much everything I’ve seen on here. It clunked hard when I put it in. I didn’t feel it shift out of it when I put it in 2h and the light is still on. Been using it pretty regularly because the roads haven’t been cleared and haven’t had any problems with it.

I've done a mod or two
Go down a small hill and slalom left and right a bit with the truck in neutral. Might help get things to play nicely. Sometimes a tap or two on the 4wd actuator helps too if it has been very cold out

Check the solenoid for the 4wd. It's under the passenger side kick panel.

So I am pretty sure I have leaking rear axle seals after looking at things last weekend while doing the LSPV delete. I have the telltale streaks on the inside of my tires from fluid coming from somewhere, and my brake shoes were soaked when I looked at them a month or two ago. I'd replaced the wheel cylinders and cleaned everything up, but still have the problem. Not much else it could be, in fact I can't think of a thing.

I have done this on a Dana 44, is it similar on the Toyota axle? IE- back out the 4 retainer bolts, slide out the axle, go find someone with a press to replace the axle bearing while we have it out, , then reassemble?? I think I may go ahead and modify the axle vent as well, in favor of a hose going up into the engine bay to an ARB manifold or similar, not just the little factory nub.

Yes and no. Early years are vacuum operated. But it still takes a main solenoid to kick the power to the vacuum solenoids to open and close.

Later years are all electronic with actuators for the tcase and diff

clean contacts. You can pop the top off of it and see the inside. Though first Id try just unplugging and plugging it back in. Then if thats all good. Get a volt meter out and start testing all the connections to see where its getting crossed up.

It could be as simple as your 4wd button being bad. Or as bad as the 4wd actuator gone out on the tcase.
