Yep. I get in discussions with folks complaining that their 90’s Honda gets 40+mpg and today’s cars are worse. I explained that it’s due to emission requirements. Cars can get amazing mpg by running very lean but nowadays that won’t pass epa requirements. So manufacturers looked to other methods such as Atkinson and Hybridizing.

Plus when running that lean the heat output of the exhaust is much higher (I think) and converters can’t handle it and melt. Not to mention all of the other issues to excessively hot exhaust gases.

Sorry, that was before the re-release of the new FM. Make sure you "Update" in flash manager, and use PCMFlash in the "Tuning" menu of FM. You are dongle right?

How long before the tune settles and mpg goes back to normalish? 87 performance here and I’ve lost about 2-3mpg. Got about 80-100 miles on it.

I'm on the same tune. Took about 2 tanks to settle in.

Ok so I got my package last week and found out I was on 04B03 so I just flashed the base 87 tune to check it out. Really enjoyed it but then saw all the talk about being able to flash to 04B04 really easily so I went ahead and did that and then flashed to the 87 performance tune. For my stop and go, pot holes, speed bumps, commute I think it is just a little too aggressive for me. I plan on going back to the 87 base tonight but my question is should I be waiting a certain amount of time or miles before changing tunes or should I be resetting the learning? This will be the 3rd tune in about a week.

My advice would be to reset the learning every time you flash a new tune file, and it does take a good 250+ miles for the changes and learning to really settle in each time. Unless there's a glaring problem with the performance, I personally test each version for one or two full tanks of gas.

That said, if you know you're not happy with the aggressive nature of the performance tunes, and as long as you also reset the learning again, there's no danger in immediately flashing back to the base versions (or any other). When done correctly, you can flash as often as you want.

Perfect. Thank you! I will look back for the instructions on how to do that. I appreciate it.

    1. Ensure the engine is warm, turn truck off, then flash new tune file per flashing instructions.
    2. Start truck to ensure flash worked, but immediately turn truck off again once you've confirmed that it worked.
    3. Use TechStream to reset Trans/engine learning.
    4. Start truck again and let it idle for 10 minutes.
    5. Enjoy your freshly tuned truck!

No need to reflash but you should do the 10 minute idle.
