Has anyone found an economical way to get rid of the ribs on tailgate? I just want a nice flat surface to save my knees and to be able to use while camping.

I don't need a "reinforcement" just a stable flat surface but can't justify over $200 from the fabricators (very nicely done just too pricey).

    Thank.

Cut a board for it? Maybe a knee guard? Maybe formica?

Put a pair of knee pads on...it's cheaper.

Thinking off the head, I’d imagine you can just buy a flat piece of some kind of plastic or composite and either put it down with 3M double sided tape it’s not going to look the cleanest but it’ll save the knees. If you really have the time I don’t think it’s too difficult to make what these guys are charging close 200$ for... I don’t blame you either I think it’s pretty ridiculous to pay 200$ for a tailgate cutting board... one of the dumbest things IMO. One of the few things that wanted me to smash my head into the keyboard lol. Yes I’m being a hater for this one time please excuse me lol.

buy some thin gauge steel, 16ga maybe. Remove the plastic tailgate cover and place it over the steel. Mark it with marker. Then just hacksaw/cutting wheel it till it fits the template sort of. Then spray with whatever cheap spraypaint you have laying around. It will look like crap and probably fit like crap but it'll be cheap.

I’ve got the Mobtown aluminum cover and use a rubber piece on the tailgate if needed

One of the things that bugs me the most for some reason! I think I'm gonna get this thing, since I don't have the Toyota oem bed mat, and was about to buy one before I found this.

Thanks for suggestions...I see I am not the only one that is frustrated.

I looked at the Mobtown but it is a 2nd gen part, I'm 3rd gen.

The other ideas I have mulled over but looking for a bit of function (I use it as a table when camping) and style, it's not the old beater Tundra anymore LOL.

Over $200 for a plastic insert made by Mountain Hatch....I could probably f**k up a piece of plastic for less than that. This is when I will take the cheap China non-OEM part.

Current idea is a piece of plywood, routed down to fit, then cover the "useable" space in a thin sheet of aluminum skin, similar to what they do with the teardrop campers.

I think the mountain hatch comes with 10-69 Instagram likes, and a couple extra followers so price is probably justified.... :anonymous::spending:

I will have to email them. The website says 2nd gen, then 3rd gen, then 2005-15, then 3rd gen again. Looking at the price of starboard or other plastics will blow you away.
