To this point, no one has been able to do it. Below is a link to the most recent thread on it. There is another one somewhere with basically the same people and info. I think this one likely summarizes whats going on as well as the other significantly longer one. If you got the skills to make it happen, there will be MANY people that sing your praises for eternity, or at least until the 4th gens come out.

Combines things like Search and Rescue, mountaineering, repelling, and other "Wilderness activities" with EMT training. Field expedient litters, moving injured people on mountains etc.

 

Is anyone running a Marlin Crawler on a 1st gen?

 

You should be able to trick the computer that controls the locker with a false low range signal and get a locker at any time. Also, ARB doesn't make a locker for that application.

I'd honestly skip the ARB all together.

 

That would make it cheaper certainly. And I have no intentions of using the front except in controlled playing situations. I guess a limited slip in the front would be a close second place.

I thought they had come out with one for the 8.75" diff now? Maybe I was wrong. Might explain why the vendor hasnt gotten back to me.

If all that is the case, then I could probably be ready even sooner as the build just got significantly cheaper. Do you like the Nitro gears ok? I have always used Yukons in the past but there werent as many options then.

 

How many harrops have you installed now? Still liking them the best?

 

0 as in zero. Never got around to buying one as I don't have a huge need for a front locker. Rear locker and a-trac is more than enough for the kind of trouble I want to get into with my 4runner. I will say, once locked in the rear, the a-trac has to work very little to get the front to lock up and doesn't de-tune like it did with the open rear.

 

Guess you guys were talking front lockers. I am thinking harrop for the rear or should I look into a FJ cruiser rear?

I quit using Yukon in the mid 2000s when they had a huge quality drop. Have not given them too much thought after that. I prefer Nitro or Revolution in most cases.

 

Meh, do the 8" cheap and see if you're a driver that like to break ring and pinions before spending much money on it. I'm about 1 diff every 3 years so I'm looking to upgrade

 

Marlin make many parts for Toyota's and 1st gens. What are you looking for exactly?

 

Well I just keep getting the warm fuzzys today. Managed to save 2 grand on air lockers and I trust your thoughts on the Nitros. Looks like my ordering process just got easier and cheaper!

 

Sorry. Does anyone have a Marlin Crawler Tacobox (additional t-case) in a 1st gen? Looks like a Tacobox runs around $2200 by itself alone. How much does a Tacobox install cost when all is said and done, assuming I took it somewhere to have someone install it? $3k? More?

Is the 4.70:1 gear ratio the recommended ratio to get in a Tacobox?

My application would be an '04 DCSB V6 TRD.

I believe the 4.7 is the only gear option available. Honestly though, if you are going to do it there would not be much reason to do a lesser gear. Also, the 4.7 winds up being roughly double what you have which effectively gives you three transfer cases. If you want to play on rocks, its a pretty spectacular set up. But admittedly, its extreme overkill for the average dude.

 

Definitely needed for how the 3rd gens are geared. 4.88 didn't feel like enough with only 33's.

 

I plan on doing the diamond 9.5” rear with harrop in rear if I ever break mine in the gx. Honestly will probably do the same on the Tacoma too

 

I'm curious how your truck would have drove with all the most recent reflashes. I still feel with the overdrive(s) stock they need 4.56, 33s 4.88, 35s 5.29

 

Where would I be able to take one of these classes? I'm interested in this.

 

You would break it for sure. I used to see the old 5.7Xs (whatever they were) for the old chunks break every weekend.
