Every shop I've gone to says that they're getting cracked down on for passing illegal tint, might have something to do with it.

I really don't understand why its even a law in NC, especially when 95% of police in the state don't even care to enforce it

Looks good. Not sure if this has been mentioned but dark tint on the windshield is a good way to be found at fault when there's an accident and the cause/responsible party isn't perfectly clear.

Yep - as much as I want to tint my windshield, its a terrible idea in case you get into an accident. If insurance catches that windshield tint when you rear end someone or hit something, you're immediately at fault. Stick with the 6" straight or rounded strip at the top

Edit: Also, I feel like driving at night would be impossible

I rear ended a guy and had 50% tint on my windshield (not the cause of the accident BTW)...cops never said shit about it nor did insurance.

That's because you were already at fault.

Basically if they are looking for a cause and one isn't clear you don't want to be the guy on the scene with the dark windshield.

I am sure each state is different, but in NC a cop/state trooper/sheriff CANNOT impound your car or even make you remove it on the spot just because of illegal tint. All they can do is write you a ticket or give you a warning. Legally!

Now, they can tell you if you remove it right then and there that they wont write you a ticket. But they can in no way shape or form legally make you remove it. You have a 30 day grace period from the time your first ticket is recorded with the DMV to get it removed and redone legal or leave it off altogether. 95% of LEOs in NC dont even know the true tint law. We see it daily in our shop.

Same here in Las Vegas, but the cops wont care if you remove it because you will be paying a $1,200 fine every single time you are stopped for it.

the fine in NC is $290. $50 citation and $240 court costs. total horse shit if you ask me but I digress. before I started doing tint I had all of my vehicles done in 5% on the sides and back and 45% on the windshields. after paying about 4 tint tickets within 2 years I stopped doing that and went with legal. at that time though our tint tickets were $170. but that was still high enough I didn't wanna pay anymore.

$290 is steep, that sucks. I want to think the fine in FL the only time I paid it was like $120 10+ years ago.

Wow $1,200 is just crazy and really ridiculous. I understand why police do not like dark tinted windows but me personally I have nothing to hide I just like the look and the privacy from unwanted people looking in my truck/cars.

too many concealed weapon permits in NC......my cousin is a cop in Charlotte......he carries and cops don't like to come up on car where they can't see in....understandable but 70%, which is basically clear, should be allowed

In NC - Trucks and suvs can have windows whatever % on every piece of glass behind the driver and passenger window, doesn’t matter how dark.

Cars have to have all pieces of glass to be legal % (35).

    Stupid rule but whatever.

BTW - it’s required that you place both hands on the wheel and announce that you are a CHP holder and if you are carrying, anytime you get pulled over in NC.

I dont have my CCW but i do carry. I do the old skool thing and lay the gun on the dash and put both hands on the wheel even when going thru a license check. Never been bothered. They dont even second guess it. As long as you act respectable, they will do the same.

Um, too dark. Not my thing. Not sure the point. I test drove a tinted window, used Tacoma. I couldn't see out. Yah know the tinting affects the inside visibility as well as you seeing out. Unsafe. And reasons why a lot of states have laws against. :hattip:

Went with 20% in the front and factory "tint" (for now) in the back. Will make the rear darker in the future but if you want to "match", then 20% is the sweet spot. 35% would be too light in my opinion.

    Nice truck.
Same tint . Ceramic 20% matched the rear factory.
