Older skater Guys & Punk ass kids BS thread

I’m highly hoping so as well for you!I don’t know how these guys determine wether or not they’ll attend.When i seen Mike V last week he was thrilled to be attending for the first time this yr.I see Dave Duncan quite a bit floating around Huntington Beach and recently when i seen him he told me he’s been to all three and this will be the fourth.

That’s sweet you were able to hang out by the judges booth/area!As far as Sunday’s session(Mike’s pool)that would be so cool to attend actually being able to skate or not.Surely some of the attendees(legends/pro’s)will show up i believe.Focus on your trip and hoping for a great one for you as well as what you’ll be able to attend with Skatercon!

The homie Nick (who made the trophies) found out he’s got a spot to set up a booth so I’ll be helping him man it! Super fired up about that! Def going to FanBoy out on Mike V. for sure!

We started a little saying at one of the Ramp sessions “Snap Into A Smith Grind!” So, Nick made a photo op deal with a board clamped to a flat bar that kids & parents or whatever can pose on! Should be fun!

Ran into Jason but then lost him in the crowd, LOL.

Didn't really get many photos because I was trying to enjoy the show. Of all people Ron Allen got on stage before Keith came on and spit some pretty good rhymes which was badass!

A aquaintenance buddy of mine(Andrew)was at Skatercon and apparently took a nasty spill.Was rushed to the hospital with a concussion and four dislocated fingers.

@BandanaBerg you hear anything about this?

 

I talked to my buddy Blake who was on the deck right next to him when it happened.

Apparently went air to fakie and slipped out, hitting his head on the wall them falling really awkwardly back into the bowl.

People said his fingers got mangled from the fall and this looks like confirmation of it. I wasn't there obviously but plenty of people saw it happen. Not sure if the rain played a roll or not.

 

Oh wow!Yeah my friend Jonathan from SoCal Skateshop sent me the pic.Surely looks like he pulled through which sounds like it could of been worse.Andrew was going to come by and work on my ramp this Saturday but i don’t believe so now.

 

He got knocked out and was unconscious for several minutes from reports. He's super lucky, honestly.

 

Stopped into the source earlier today,”Shark Wheel”and talked with Taylor.He hooked me up with 60mm 78A California Roll(amber/yellow)wheels.

He tossed in some free bearings with the $35 wheels purchase(Abec 9 bearings/built in speed rings).

Going to swap back and forth with my OJ111’s Hot Juice 60mm 78A wheels.

 

I don't think those would be good for actually doing tricks but for a cruiser or filmer set up, they may be cool.

I could see catching one of the channels on coping and bad things happening. I've done my fair share of "wheelers" in bowls and stuff and don't need any other methods of eating shit than I already am apparently an expert at.

The homie Nick was judging and saw the whole thing! Compound dislocation and blood all over the place! I didn’t see it but it was a definitely known! I was talking with dude just before they stated the contest back up and he slammed...

 

It was pretty dry by the time they started the contest back up... I was taking a few laps and was just chatting with him prior!

As much as it's weird and sad to see the end of an era, the one thing that won't change is amazing photography and people writing about experiences like in the past.

The medium is changing to digital which as a silver lining means that we can literally see the Tampa Am or Bowlarama contests as they happen, from anywhere in the world! And writers are still stringing words together but posting them online as blogs and such.

One online "mag" that I like is Jenkem.com. Pretty funny articles, good coverage of stuff happening and some recognizable names behind it all.

As a designer, it is sad to see print going away especially considering Transworld had THE best photo images. Not because they published stuff by better photogs than Thrasher, the actual paper and printing was better which really made the images want to jump off the pages.

But that stuff is expensive and with subscriptions down across the board (no pun intended) for ALL publications, it's not really surprising to see Transworld shuttering their print division.
TW hasn't been independently owned for almost 20 years since it was purchased by Time Warner in 2000 which honestly was really the beginning of the end. Ownership has been tossed around several times so this last bit is just someone doing accounting measures.

I was definitely way more sad when Big Brother ended, which in all honesty lasted WAY longer than it should have...!

And I guess it kind of settles the Indys vs. Tracker debate...
