Only if you have the j shift transfer case

 

People extend and run a line to the fuel door thing.

I can find the part numbers in a minute if you want

 

What should I be checking for?

 

clean contacts. You can pop the top off of it and see the inside. Though first Id try just unplugging and plugging it back in. Then if thats all good. Get a volt meter out and start testing all the connections to see where its getting crossed up.

It could be as simple as your 4wd button being bad. Or as bad as the 4wd actuator gone out on the tcase.

uhh..no I think that is under the dash.

Kick panel is the small plastic panel inside the foot well. Like if you tried to kick the door from your seat.

Do you have push button or j shift?

On the diff actuator I believe it's pin 2 and 6 that receive power and reverse polarity to control the motor. Unplug the harness and check that that is happening.

 

Yeah that was totally me having a stupid moment. Is it the one that says transmission relay?

 

No should just be a small normal looking relay. Though ive not looked at my 03 to compare only my 97

Think it should eb the black little relay held in with the one 10mm bolt and odd bracket on the left.

Ah you're an auto. So that makes sense. I'd check it still. Just see if you can hear it click when you push the 4wd button.

 

Well I have the manual shift 4wd. I think it’s out now. I heard it click in and out and went back to the snowy lot I was in to test it out. But the light is stuck on. I’ve turned it off and disconnected the battery but I guess I’ll see if it turns off eventually.

If the light isn't coming off then something with the electrical side is locking up. The diff could be if your a J shift.

 

Could the cold weather be affecting the actuator? I've heard the actuator can "freeze" but I'm not sure how or how cold it has to be.

 

The light should go off when the shifter is in 2wd regardless if the diff is still engaged or not.
