I've seen charts that look a bit different.. Check out papers published by the EPA.

You can't really compare the fuel targets of the skyactiv X that uses SPCCI and much much higher compression (dynamically via a supercharger).

Not only that but until the car is released everything is pretty much speculation.

If you want to get into the nuts and bolts of skyactiv, ask mazda why they idle rich? Depending on conditions it will idle in the 13.x

And when you look in the ecu, the absolute LEANEST fuel target is 15.5 used only under very light load where throttle remains fully open and the cams control cylinder fill.

Regardless, like many aftermarket car companies, offroad or not, we have to strive to meet demands set by the EPA.

If you think running “extremely lean” is good, you should take a drive to your local race track and ask some racers their opinions on running lean...

Coming from a race car owner you never want to run “extremely lean” you start to melt things and destroy the engine from the inside out

With proper injectors and engine monitors (all 6 cylinders), leaner is better, and actually cooler. I flew a Cirrus Lean-of-Peak (35* I believe) for a LONG time with no issues.

However, running an aircraft engine at a constant power setting, well below maximum, for hours on end is totally different than tuning a vehicle.

All these lean/rich mixture talks reminds me of my young days with 1/8" scale nitro rc truck with .27 cu engine. Use to lean the engine to pull more power for those top speeds of 50 mph. After having to rebuild the engine every 4-5 runs and threw a rod and blew off the aluminum head- I learned rich mixture and sluggish runs is easy and less work lol. Talk about tuning- always something wrong with temp and Houston humidity for those carbs to keep engine temp at 225-250F.

Lean runs hot. Hot bad. Especially in summer.

Well side note from all that meaningful discussion above..

Performance and Gearlock tune are one and the same except with gearlock you can hold the gears with the ECT button on. Correct?

Yes sir. ‘Twas summer outlaw bracket races. And I “hot lapped” the car without proper cool downs towards the end of the event. All my fault hahaha

Also, with Gearlock you lose ECT.
