Hi all hams/drivers: I’m looking for clean install ideas for your mic. So far I like to the right of the therm controls with the jack cut in below. Just not married to the looks.

Would love to see 3rd Gen mic mounts!

I love that spot. It’s getting full as I have one more switch going in there too. Thanks for the quick reply.

One of my PT jobs asked me to start carrying a radio to monitor when we are working an event with one of the ham event groups. So, I get to write off a new radio on my taxes... woot! So decided to get a Kenwood v71a from HRO. It is going in my truck and I am pulling my Yaesu 8800 out and building a Ham-in-a-can. All the stuff just came in the mail today. Need a do to do the swap in my truck and then I can start assembling my go can.

I am going to be happier with the 71 in my truck with the lit buttons. Only downside to the 8800.

I also picked up a Alinco power supply so I can hook up an old ICOM 3200 I got from my elmer. Then I can have my base station at home, first step to convincing the wife to let me get my HF rig.

I may also be buying a new Powerwerx DB-750x also for work. Seeing it is for work, tax right off. Just have to let the dust settle on this new radio.

I'll post pics As I get it put together.

What I did for the mic in my truck was to wire in a remote PTT switch in a CAT 5 extension cable between the radio and mic. I have the mic attached to a phone mount that clips in the CD slot on the radio. With the mic gain on hi, I never pick up the mic on my V71A. The remote PTT switch is wrapped attached to Velcro that wraps around the 6sp shifter.

Here's a few. The PTT button is on the front of the shifter. The mic is clipped to the phone mount via the mic hanger being black zip tied to the mount. For a cleaner install, the mic could be routed to the ceiling mounted on one of the sunglass holders. The faceplate is above the rear view mirror.

I know just enough about the radios to know that I know nothing. Is there a good forum I can also read to help me understand more so I can ask the questions I need to ask? I've taken a couple practice tests and I've passed both of them but still not ready for the test or actually looking for what I want in a rig.
