Finally put in dual constant 12v marine-grade lighter sockets in my passenger side bed cubby next to my inverter. I've been wanting constant power back there for a while so I can power more things in the bed like USB chargers for my phone and speakers when camping. The lighter sockets in the cab are useless at night because they require the truck to be running.

With the Alu-Cab tent now on the truck, it has an Anderson-to-Lighter cable to power the internal built in LED stalk lights and also a dual USB charger port up in the tent. I need constant 12v when the truck is not running, plus the cable they sent is only about 8' long so there's no way it would run from the back of the tent to the cab anyways.

Parts and Supplies needed to buy:

Heat Shrink 10/12 gauge butt splices: https://amzn.to/2HeXcwd
Ring terminals that adapt your wire to your battery terminal posts. Pretty readily available at any hardware shop. Just make sure the ring diameter is big enough for your battery terminal post size.
Cold brew of choice to celebrate your success when done

Tools needed:

Shorter medium diameter philips screwdriver because the cubby is small and it's a tight fit to get those socket faceplate screws in. One of those small 90 degree ratcheting screwdriver doohickies will work well, too.
Hole saw set for drill
Drill
Drill bit set
Screwdriver with smaller torx bits
Heat shrink tubing to clean up and seal your connections

Order of Operations with Pics:

1. Remove the 6 tork screws from the inverter/cubby module. I left the plug in the inverter because it was so crusty with old mud that I didn't want to risk breaking it. There's enough wire back there to allow me to pull it out and work with it.

2. The lighter sockets from Amazon came with little face plates that I used as a template for drilling. I used a hole saw for the main holes after drilling a small pilot hole in the center to make sure the drill stayed aligned. The two faceplate screw holes just took a small drill bit. The composite cubby material is easy to drill but holds screws really well as long as you don't overdrill.

3. Placed the sockets in the holes and put on their threaded retaining ring. With a short Phillips screwdriver, I put the 2 faceplate screws right into the cubby wall material and it held solid.

Step 3 from the inside. Sorry for the dirty cubby but I was in a hurry and knew the hole saw was going to make a mess anyways. Clean-up afterwards.

4. Time to wire it up. This pair of sockets came with small wiring harnesses with the spade connectors already attached and inline fuses in the positive line. Might as well use them. I spliced the two sets together and heat shrank it all after butt splicing and it worked well. Next is to run the 12 gauge shielded wire I had from another project from these to the battery and tuck the wires and zip tie everything up clean. Those ring terminals were cut off of the included wiring pigtails and discarded so I could merge the two sets together. I used larger diameter ring terminals for my battery posts.

The pigtails that come with the sockets have these clean spade connectors already installed. Might as well use them.

All done. Everything wired to the battery directly and I ran the wire along the frame and up behind the fender well to the engine bay. 12 gauge was suitable for that run since I'm not going to load these sockets with big power tools or anything. Just small lights and USB chargers. I can use the factory inverter for bigger needs.

Success. The tent LED lights work great and the USB ports in the tent are good to go. Now I can use the 2nd lighter socket for my phone charger, keeping my bluetooth camp speakers juiced up all night, etc.

Put your tools away, clean up the mess, and drink that beer.

Looks to be american outlaw but they don't show that wheel in their catalog anymore. That's the only wheel I know of with a star like that.

I started off like this. Single 12v socket in the cubby. I now have the 12v socket in the cubby, one on each side of the bed by the taillights. Also added 3 dual USB sockets as well to the bed. You quickly find out what you thought was enough isn’t.

I definitely recommend adding a dedicated USB socket or 2 as well.

That’s kinda what I was thinking too. I’ve been trying to find a bumper that’s not so bulky. I don’t like the plate bumpers. I like Bruteforce Fab’s hybrid.

I did like 3 layers on all of the powerline junctions except on the spade connectors which already had their own. Mentioned that I used heat shrink tube in the writeup, I just didn't photo it

I've had my eye on a set like that for a while . I've always hated my stock ones because they look like the 90's Altezzas people put on everything, but haven't seen many aftermarket sets I like either. Which brand are yours?
