I'll see what I can do.

You will also have to have your rear driveshaft shortened. While you're spending all the money, you may as well have another crossmember put in to stiffen things up.

I think @steve2267 would benefit from lower gearing for carrying all the gear he does going up steep roads for surveying work. But he should upgrade his suspension first.

Since you're still asking questions, I don't believe that you actually want this. This is something that is training for a JOB, not something you would necessarily pay for / take on your own "just for some knowledge". Likely what you would benefit from is Wilderness First Aid (WFA). 16 hours of classroom/exercises. Since you're going to see Wilderness First Responder (WFR aka "woofer")... This is required for certain jobs and likely way too much for you to have (it's a week-long version that is much more in depth than WFA).

Yep, I was debating weighing in, my WFR I think expires this year and I took it just because and it was discounted/ convenient at the time.

Yes, suspension upgrade is first on my list. A Marlin Crawler Tacobox is on the "Gee, that would be really cool to have" list... somehow I found myself oogling Tacobox youtube videos today.

That fellow in Utah known as BoxRocket around here told me that on his 1st gen DCSB build, he had between 4-600lb in the back. He stuck with stock 4.10 gearing. As I do not see going larger than 33" tires, and actually don't even see myself going to 33" tires due to MPG issues, I'd stick with the 4.10's.

With the A340F auto tranny, 1st gear is 2.8:1
    Factory t-case is: 2.57:1
    Rear diff: 4.10:1
    4-LO overall gear ratio: 2.8 x 2.57 x 4.10 = 29.5

Add a crawler (eventually) @ 4.7:1 and that would be 139:1. More than enough for anything I could see myself attempting. I could go to 4.56:1 in the diffs, but I see that as hurting my highway driving, which is the majority of what I do.

You have the same thoughts as me. I'm sticking with my 4.10 gears since they are fine for most of the time on road trips. When I'm crossing Colorado and going up/down/up/down, I turn overdrive off. When I drive below 45 on steep county roads, I've been dropping it into 2 LOW for more power and engine breaking. It would be nice to have a Taco Box, but at that price, I'd rather do a supercharger first.

Oh, and I'm sticking with 31.8" tires (265/75R16).

Gotcha I was thinking it was more for knowledge and not a job certification. Thanks for the clarification and sorry to be a pest I was just curious.

I just got an email SDHQ stating this about the ARB rear locker:

    "Hey John,

Looks like we missed those on our website on accident. The part number for your rear locker is RED232 and we will have it on the website shortly."

However, it is still not on the website. If someone could figure out how to get the locker to kick on at any time, I wouldnt feel bad at all about skipping the ARB.

    @thefatkid

Brian, do these cam plugs need to be replaced, or can you pull them out and reseal with RTV? Also can it be done without pulling the valve covers? I replaced valve cover gaskets a year or two ago and they're doing fine.

So are you saying you got a set of OEM LCA's you want to sell? Maybe let me borrow so I can swap mine out and then give you mine in return. If needed we can talk beer, whiskey or ?? for a core charge.

Yes. It's a XR200 of my Dad's that just collects dust in my garage. I ride a KTM 150XCW.

I'm not sure, but it looks from photos that there is an internal piece that clamps down on the plug that you need to access the bolts under the valve cover.

When I took my truck back for warranty for leaking valve cover gaskets (30k after the rebuild), then also removed and resealed those plugs.

I do those with valve covers, Don't think you can without. I generally replace those as the FIPG method has limited luck.

If only I had done that when I did the valve cover gaskets.....

    Thanks for the info.
