nice...so if someone was looking to get into Intel, how would you suggest they do it?

Taylor... rumor has it they will be doing some pretty pretty big highering to back fill F22's equipment stuff (now part of F32 but we don't have enough people to run both sides). Also Samsung is highering full swing for their second phase of their massive Austin plant, plus they're builing another one. So I'm sure if hte packages are right we'll probably lose a few people that want to get out of AZ... also worth it for you to check out if you're interested. There's also a rumor they (Intel) were going to start requiring 4 year degrees even for techs though o.0.

Right now, at least a 2 year technical degree is required for a tech position. (science of some nature). I have an Associates in Automated Manufacturing Systems myself (kind of a bs degree Intel itself started with Chandler-Gilbert CC).

Also I have zero desire to become a PE (process engineer) with Intel. It's exempt and some of them work almost 24/7... and that's not an understatement. Not worth it for me. Techs at least work on shift, get 3-4 days off a week, and overtime hasn't been allowed for quite some time. Even when it is, very rarely is it mandatory.

It really is a good job... it's so easy it's kinda laughable. However, the culture, environment, and bureaucracy crap really starts wearing you down... fast. Also those stupid yellow lights, those horrible freak'n yellow lights.... :explodes:

See if your degree would qualify you to work here. Then check for openings, and push resume. This place has been on lock down for a few years. I'll check for any openings. Any experience?

i think the 4 year degree thing is that they are doing away with the wafer jockey type jobs and everyone is taking on eng type rolls.

I really don't have any tech experience that I've been paid for. But I've been building computers and interested in hardware for some time (since I was about 15) I'm pretty good with technical aspects of hardware but I could always learn more. But my degree is in justice studes, however it is a Bachelor of Science so I don't know if that would qualify me for a intry level position or not.

Yea but they also want to go PhD or bust on eng too... neither makes sense to me.

For example, for the last two SEED assignments... techs were supposed to have a 4 year degree as you're listed as an ET up there... I don't have one but still went lol. I don't see what another two years of school would do for that... or for that matter even the first two.

Some of the best engineers we have only have 4 year degrees. Granted it depends on the individual but it seems like most of the PhD engineers are way way way over-qualified and are less likely to be as involved with the floor. Our 4 year degrees even help out on PM's... For PTD I can understand the higher degree's for engineering as it's development... but for PE's it makes no sense. Anyone can clean up a SPC chart and work with defmet to resolve tracers. Just say'n.

It wouldn't hurt to apply. When I'm back on shift I'll try to see if I can find anything that's opened up for you if taco doesn't beat me... I think you'd make a good tech. You know how to turn a wrench and willing to work... that's already a step ahead of a lot of people there sadly lol. They train you to everything you need to know about the tool and systems we use anyway.

Thanks man, I appreciate it. Anything you and Adam can provide me would be awesome. I'm just trying to look for a career and where I'm at I don't think will work for me beyond a certain point.

Yea nightshift is probably your only option to get in... most people want to move to days (there are some crazy fucks though lol). I started s4... didn't really want to come to days (because I didn't want to lose the 12% pay) but ended up sorta forced on to S7 due to needs.... but I got a promo so that made it a wash+ more in pay :p

The other nice thing about days is you get more interaction with the big wigs that you don't on nights as much. Good or bad depending on how you look at it... I see it is a positive though.

Right now I don't really care, it would be an adjustment and wouldn't be forever.

Do you think I would even have a chance at getting in there with a BS in justice sutides.

Here's what it says on my Resume for education

Bachelor of Science from Arizona State University
Study in: analytical thinking, problem solving, critical inquiry, psychology, and human behavior

Associates of Arts in Business from Mesa Community College
Study in: business operations, client services and management

It will completely depend on the managers doing the hiring with the degree. Unfortunately there's really no other way to say on that one. If you get a few techs to vouch for you though that'll go farther than the degrees :p

Also, be careful with that nightshift is temp thing. I know people that got in with your thinking... 12 years later they're still trying to get to days.

i tried to call the hiring manager for that job i listed, of course no answer. but he is right, there is que list for day shift. some people can move quickly while others are on nights for 10 years or more. i got mine due to a shuffle in people and a spot opened up. we pretty much have 2 people per shift so there wasn't a lot of competition for this spot. also, i lost 12% by just moving to days. i'll let you know if i find anything

and of course, he is on vacation til the 1st. i emailed him about it.

Yea, of the nights S4 is way better imo. Working Friday night (even if you don't do anything)... just the thought of it. Kind of like S7 working every saturday :tch: I hate missing so much stuff on Sat because of it, but what can ya do.

fab 6 is a tuff place to get into as well. i didn't see any open rec's at f6. taylor may have better luck at f32 or f22. but i won't rule it out.
