has anyone tried spray painting the silver piece next to the AC also the steering whee control silver pieces? I’m wanting to paint them black just curious if anyone has done this before OR if there is maybe some vinyl or something I could put over them? Anyways just looking for suggestions.

    Thanks

I painted mine then wrapped it. If you do the proper prep work with any painting project it works out just fine.

The wrap I used was just some leftover scrap I had floating around my garage from another project and I installed it on a whim. It's not automotive grade and did not like the compound curves but I still like it.

Painted mine also (no pictures). Came out great but I'm a stickler for proper prep, not some hack with a $2 can of the cheapest spray paint that was on sale. I painted everything except for the steering wheel controls. I agree that constantly touching them would cause the paint to wear and be more annoying than leaving them silver. Although I also painted my shifter bezel and it's held up great after a couple years. As an added bonus, painting the trim rings around your gauges somehow makes them easier to read. It allows you to better focus on the dash and readouts without the tiny silver hoops.

What would you recommend as far as paint and prep? Probably won't paint the controls since i don't want to deal with it peeling or just the weird feel from being painted. I will probably paint the trim rings around the gauges too then it makes sense that they are easier to read after doing so.

Thorough sanding and cleaning followed by plastic specific primer. I usually do 2-3 light coats followed by 2-3 coats of paint.

Don’t forget to check ambient temp and humidity for where you’ll be doing tha painting that’s especially importance right now as we transition between seasons and have warm days followed by cold wet days.

Ok and do you usually use a clear coat? And what type of paint or brand of paint do you use?
