Paid up for my annual pass today. Forgot that was a thing.

Finally up to 570! And almost done with the gambit auto rifle quest. Checking out the black armory stuff right now.

Now I remember why I just stick to gambit. Or crucible. I’m doing that black armory quest for whatever it is. I hate collecting kills with whatever weapon until quest is over.

So... I have to update my impressions on Anthem. I wouldn't be right if I didn't. (and yes, I know this is a Destiny thread).

My original review stands but more issues have come out in the last few days that has taken this game on a severe downturn. Banning people for playing a PvE game (just look up Gladd's video and it will explain it all and how fucking stupid it is). Gladd was helping promote this game and BioWare banned him from the game that didn't affect the game whatsoever. But that's just one of the problems that has come up. Now the biggest issue is there have been many reports that the game is bricking PS4 consoles because of a code that is embedded in the game. That is FUCKING UNACCEPTABLE.

The truth of the matter is... this game has had the worst launch that I have ever seen. I personally believe that Bioware did everything they could to be transparent with the game but when you get in bed with the most hated publisher in all of gaming you have made your deal with the devil. The game is fun no doubt. But it will never recover from the massive amount of negative press the game has received. Some of it is founded and some unfounded. But that makes no difference at this point. The game will never recover from this launch and people are asking for refunds (rightfully so). There will not be enough of a player base to keep this game alive and it is dead in the water which is a shame because the game itself is actually a lot of fun. But they fucked up and it will never recover. Those that haven't bought it will never buy it now and that is understandable. I wouldn't either. How... just fucking how... can they release a game in this state after 6+ years of development? I refuse to play it right now because I'm not about to take a chance of bricking my system over a code that should have been recognized. It's a shame that it came down to this but it is what it is.

    Back to Warframe for me.

Wow. To both items. That’s too bad.

I’d they really did him over something that stupid it’s pretty ridiculous.

Also surprising about it bricking systems. That’s pretty bad on both PlayStation and anthem. It shouldn’t happen either way.

I still stand by my original review of the game but these issues have come up in the last few day. I won't play Anthem until they get this sorted out. Not about to brick my system over a bug that is in the game.

The game itself is a very good game. But all the negative press surrounding the game I think will doom this game which is a shame. It's a lot of fun to play but that said... Those that were on the fence about buying the game will not buy it now for certain. I'll stick around and see what happens but I've got a feeling the the vast majority of player will have given up on this game. It's sad that it released like this because it could have been a good game. But as I said before... you lay with the devil (EA) this is what the world has come too. AAA game are done in my opinion. The publishers have destroyed AAA gaming as a service and I'm not sure it will ever recover.

Bungie won't make it because they won't be able to self publish the game by themselves so after this year... I personally think we will see the end of Destiny and Bungie as a whole. So the game have moved to more of Indie style games like Warframe where the developer cares about their player base instead of the money. The money will flow in because the game is so good. Destiny has nothing new or meaningful to offer and there is no way they will be able to create new "meaningful" content and release meaningful content in a timely manner. So Bungie will be the next one to fail. You mark my words. Games have moved into a new direction such as Fortnight, PugG, Apex Legends, Warframe, and those are the ones that are making the money. These AAA developers do not know how to move into that market because they have relied on their bread and butter games and those no longer hold up. The gaming market has moved on and the publishers have fallen so far behind that it's too late to catch up. They rested on content being released each year and that just doesn't work anymore.

I never played those but judging by the people I see playing fortnite and ping I really hope that isn’t the case.

Plus I really like solo play through a story. Then I can take my time and do whatever. Red dead is a good example. It seems like those games you listed are all just online play with no real story. Disclaimer though I’ve never played them. :)

Fortnite was an indie game that has made more money than god. AAA games as a service is dead now. There is no publisher that will be willing to spend money on AAA titles anymore since the environment has changed. The days of releasing a new CoD etc... are over. No one gives a shit anymore and the microtransactions didn't help at all. Fallout 76 is a prime example of how to completely fuck up a game that was beloved by hundreds of thousands of people and now it's done. That game is finished along will Fallout from this point forward. There has been a shift in gaming and those that provide games at a service push their shit out (broken or not) saying "we'll fix it in a later patch" That shit doesn't fly anymore and the public at large is sick of it. Destiny has no meaningful content coming out this year (if ever). Anthem has completely fucked up. Fallout 76 is doomed. So AAA games "as a service" is over. It has been taken over by indie games that understand their customers.

Solo game are fine. But the vast majority of gamers play games as a service. And when you release a broken game in the hopes that it will get better over time that has become the norm and people are sick of it. So these games will fail and the indie games I mentioned earlier will take over.

Fortnite is really fun if you have people to play with.

So after reading more into the subject of Anthem "bricking" PS4 systems turns out to be absolutely false. Anthem can boot you out of the game (on extremely rare occasions) to where you have to reset your system into safe mode. But Anthem isn't the only game that has done that. God of War also did that and from what I understand is the graphical demands on the system after playing for a long period of time can cause this issue. God of War was probably the most graphically intensive game that has ever been released on PS4 and although I never had that issue I could see where it could cause it. Some of these games are pushing the limits of what these systems are capable of. So Anthem bricking a PS4 is completely false. Not one PS4 has been bricked by Anthem or God of War.

What this basically seems like, is there are so many people that want this game to fail that they will drag up any single thing they can to bring this game down and slow down sales. That brings me back to my point of AAA games in general. There is so much hate toward AAA games these days that no one trusts the publishers with very good reason. Fallout 76, CoD, you name a AAA game and it's probably there. Any game that comes out now as a play for service game is pretty much doomed to fail because of the backlash that these publishers have created. Warframe is the only game that seems to be immune from this because 1: It has kind of flown under the radar and 2: It's a free to play game where the developer has created a great relationship with their play base.

    Yeah.
I bought Anthem but haven't even loaded it up -- probably won't until they fix some more issues. AC Odyssey froze or crashed several times, one time even totally freezing up the console. I'm on to Metro:Exodus for now, still need to go back and finish RDR2.

Thanks for clarifying that. I will never understand the hate that some of these games and even movies generate. It's one thing to express an opinion, even a negative one, but it's gone beyond that into the realm of actually working to bring things down. I guess the hatred for EA runs deep. I've been having fun with Anthem 50 or 60 hours in and I've seen minimal bugs on my XBone-X. I'll keep playing while it's still fun and hopefully they get their shit together in time to save this game. The devs have tweeted that Ea is committed to the studio and the game but I guess they kind of have to say that anyway.

If you're going by what others are saying about Anthem then you are missing out. Is it perfect? Not by a long shot. But the game itself is fun and there are plenty of things to do in the game that will keep you occupied.

As far as a PS4 or Xbox locking up... it's all in how much ventilation you have around it. Mine is sitting out in the open and I hear a lot of people talk about how the fans are spooling up to stupid speeds. Mine has never done that even with God of War which was the most graphically demanding game ever created for the PS4. Now... a launch edition PS4? I could see that. But the Pro doesn't have that problem. At least none of mine do.

EA is a shit company and everyone knows that. They are all about the money. Same thing with Activision, Ubisoft, etc... They don't develop games anymore. If the game makes money for them then they are happy. If not, they shudder the company. So I "personally" think all of these attacks against Anthem and games of the like are directed more toward the publisher than the actual game itself. That's a shame because Anthem isn't a bad game. Sure it could be better. And given time, I think it will become better. But it's up to EA whether that time will be given.

I will say this though.... BioWare didn't do themselves any favors by banning Gladd for just playing the game. They banned him for using an exploit on the Storm (one time I might add) against a Titan (that doesn't drop any loot) to show BioWare "you might want to fix this". Gladd was promoting the game and they banned him for 2 weeks. That was a fucking stupid move on their part considering they need all the positive publicity they can get at this time.

Very true as I think most agree the unique foundation that anthem requires for its identity has taken considerable time to make it right. I think they did that, but the polish and execution of the game still takes time after that they likely did t have time to implement. I do hope ea gives them enough time, but that’s what’s scary is how ea is with their general demeanor in cutting losses so easily without staying dedicated for a solid outcome. This would be a great lesson learned if they backed anthem and really have the devs time to make it what it was designed to be and for once give ea a positive light for themselves in terms of other own conduct.
