Build Thread-Minerva; 09 Tacoma DCSB V6 6SPD

Hey all,
Bought my first Tacoma back in November. I had been looking for months, but couldn't find a 6spd with lower miles. I finally came across this 2009 with 76,000.

Since being on TW my parts hoarding has become borderline professional over these winter months. One of the first DIY mods I did was the remove the OEM grill and get rid of the chrome, against the MGM paint chrome just doesn't do it for me.. I'll likely leave the rear bumper on until @Nimble9 makes me a simple and sexy aluminum one




Last photo shows the grill installed, as well as the swapped black housing headlights.

 

Catching up on Maintenance is something I'd like to do as soon as the weather breaks: I did the spark plugs a week or so ago to find the factory plugs still installed (85,000 miles). The gaps on them were .072-.077






got the front windows tinted 20%. Close to matching the factory rears. Love how it came out

 

Core-Hurst short shifter went in over the weekend. The difference is MEGA! Will get pictures once this weather isn't so brutal



I'm also working on some interior mods; you can see I have the 12-15 black HVAC unit, with necasarry harness for install (thanks @svonavja)

I'd like to purchase black OEM carpet and work on removing most of the khanki interior...

 

Also; THESE; First time I have bought a brand new set of wheels and tires in my life, both vendors made it an easy decision. Dustin at FNWheels helped with the Konig 6 shooters 17x8 and @Discount Tire Direct came through with 255/75/17 Hankook Dynapros

 

The first couple posts will be chaotic at best as I try to catch up between my parts hoarding, and DIY projects I've already tackled. Most "waiting" projects are in reference to warmer weather, and free time, of course!

I picked up @RedlineTuning Hood Struts; really happy with how these arrived, looking forward to install..

Ordered this rear window tint kit online...I had the front doors done at a local shop in Fleetwood, PA.. but the DIY in me wanted to knock these "easy" windows out (easy as in no curves, and pre-cut)




brakes came in earlier this week. at 150$ shipped to my door I couldn't say no to this kit


Ordered some high temp vinyl for the front brake calipers. Plan is to clean up my oem calipers and paint black, adding the "gold/bronze" Toyota label across it. Should blend well with the wheels!!

Having mentioned earlier about changing out some of the khaki interior, I stumbled upon grommet grab handles a few nights ago... which was great in a few ways; I really like how they are designed and feel, as well as it cleared my concern with having the issue of painting those vinyl grab bars and have the paint inevitably scrap off...I'm much more comfortable with painting the A/B/C pillar themselves and wrapping the headliner in black fabric knowing that I have these nylon braided handles to take place of the factory ones!!





These were marketed for Jeep Wranglers, however they work just fine in our Tacomas!!

 

I came home this evening to my Weathertech Mats that I ordered off a Group Buy here. They came boxed up perfect, and the fit was perfect (note: 6spd Tacoma just order the automatic trans part #, and then do some slight trimming behind were the clutch peddle touches the floor. Thanks again to @ramonortiz55

 

I just ordered this in myself last night. This is much more intrusive to the vehicle than anything I have done before. I've done spark plugs and oil, as for mods I have installed a phone holder, so I am not the handiest. Because I am not that experienced with installations I have been scoring the internet for videos. Most videos show that getting the foam sound deaden-er between the trans and the body of the truck is the hardest thing to pull out. (I have seen 0 2nd gen Tacoma videos for this installation). Was this the same for you? Do you have any advice?

 

@IFeelfishy I'm not 100% clear on the foam piece you are referring to.. once you pop off the shifter knob, grab ahold of the cup holder assembly (give her a nice tug upwards) remove the 2 10mm bolts in the bottom of the center console, and the 2 screws holding the center console and shifter console piece together(these are under the cup holder) Once those bolts are removed the 2 center console pieces come out (OEM boot comes out with it) and you're left with the OEM shifter. There is the rubber casing that is held in by 2 push clips, and 2 bolts (this is a rubber boot that DOES act as a sound deadener (but isnt foam)...its held onto the bottom of the OEM assembly by 2 staples..get a pair of needle nose pliers to remove it so you can swap it over)...then you have the 4 bolts holding the actual shifter into the trans...once these are out grab the mallet and hit the sides on the shifter to pop it loose...at this point its just install new shifter and reverse the process.


Let me add that this is by no means a difficulty install..maybe 3/10. It took me less time to do this than to do my spark plugs.

 

Costco is having a pretty good sale at the moment on coverking seat covers...I ordered a full set for my dcsb for 296$ shipped to my door. once they arrive ill install and review!

 

I didn't get the Bilstein shocks on as hoped, but I did get the new wheels and tires on!!!

 

Got the truck aligned today at H&R Tire in Lancaster, took a gamble with a new shop and i couldn't have been happier in the end...older tech named George knew his stuff; called me out to the rack once he got the truck up, confirmed my suspicion of front wheel bearings going out (had some play, will order new set from @05Taco4x4 ) he let me stay out there and shoot the shit while adjusting what he could knowing the wheel bearings had play. The guy definitely earned my return business.
