That's a bummer! I'm not sure how Lux would handle hiking anyway...she's pretty chunky and out of shape. lol

That’s much preferred vs stepping in dog shit every 20’ or dealing with dogs that can’t behave.

    That's an easy fix.

It sucks to me but I understand and agree. Bad pet owners who dont clean up or control their dogs have ruined it for good owners. I pick up after my dogs because I also don't want to step in dog shit.

You also gotta think about the wilderness and how pets fit into it. It's bad enough that dumbasses like us go stomping around land where bears and mountain lions are looking for dinner, but at least those predators are more inclined to run from people than to attempt to make us their meal. My fat dog would probably look awfully delicious to a predator though.

Plus she'd probably bark at everything that moves out there

lol - #metoo but we need to start working on that! I really want to plan a hike together! Maybe somewhere cool like Norway...hint hint!

She is scared of her own shadow - she would likely freak out every time a leaf rustled near us. lol

So much that!! I watched an episode of Arial America last night (I record them, one of my favorite shows) and they were touching on the fact that yes, wild bears live here and everybody is in danger when hiking.

I've never seen a bear in the wild but yeah, they're out there for sure. Seen plenty of sign even out in Big Bend (Black Gap) and Guadalupe NP. Every now and then a report will come up of a black bear sighting in East Texas usually on a trail cam.

On my big hike in 2014 I hung my food bag in the trees every night to get my food away from bears. We saw a mountain lion very briefly at around 11,000'... it was slightly unnerving since our camp was only 1/2 a mile further down the trail. Black bears don't really scare me, but lions and brown bears don't eff around.

Dang! I definitely wouldn't want any of them walking up on me at camp or anywhere else really.

I don't remember ever seeing a bear but have seen a mountain lion and it was scary. I was probably 14 at the time, it was maybe 100yds away, up a cliff, near a trail I was riding in a nature reserve. There had been a bunch of reports of attacks so I was on alert everytime I was out there.
