Don't know if anyone caught this story from my area in Plumas Co. Can't post a link with my tablet, but story can be read at Plumas Online News. One rider was in IC in Reno after they were found, frostbite, months of recovery expected. One burnt up snowmobile later in an effort to stay warm. Radio news did not mention the shape these two guys were in when hauled out.
Maybe someone can post a link.

Few years back on a TW snowrun at MET a father/ son had a snowmobile accident. They walked back to the main trail were his spouse and a few TW members were looking for them. They were walking for quite some time in the dark. I learned to always carry food, water, matches and a blanket in my truck.

Wow, I can't believe the kind of irrational stuff going on here. Denying help multiple times. Lighting a snowmobile on fire to stay warm, when there's a tree and wood nearby. Granted, it's probably not going to burn easily, but some basic gear like a hatchet, lighter and fire starting tools could really go a long way to making that sustainable fire. That's basic stuff that a backwoods snowmobiler would bring and can easily fit in a camelback, which is kind of also basic and necessary for anyone who's planning to take any trip on a sled since loose water bottles get beat up and burst in compartments, there's no such things a cupholder and if you're going on an extended trip with no water or basic food that's a pretty dumb move in the first place.

Sounds a lot like the people in my area that got stranded recently.

Yup... $90 in gear can go a long way toward keeping you alive.

"At 2:32 p.m. dispatch records indicate that Luna’s wife called and said her husband “is refusing to tell her where he is”"

That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever read....

I've snowmobiled in this area, but with a large group, even going further in than these guys went, but in much better weather.

I've never seen that, but that looks like a really smart item to keep with you.
