TSB questions

Hi, I have a question. If there is a tsb issued for a problem; for example say the rear leaf springs, is this a problem that toyota will rectify or if you were to buy a new truck, will it have the new leaf springs, or wil you need to bring a new vehicle in for svc? Sorry about the long question but I just want to know what I will up against. Thanks in advance, Jim

 

I had to do a lot of searching for the TSB (I didn't know about Tacomaworld when I bought my truck). I took it back to the dealer several times because it was bottoming out with a light load but they wouldn't do anything, they actually tried to sell me a Tundra. I ended up going up the food chain before someone finally told me about the TSB and e-mailed me the sheet to take to my dealership. After that, I dropped my truck off, they gave me a loaner and took care of the problem. I have an '07 though, I can't speak for the new trucks but they may already have the upgraded leaf pack.

In short, if you are having a problem, and have found the TSB to fix it (and it applies to your truck), the dealership should take care of it. My issue was I didn't know the TSB even existed.

 

The U.S. truck still sell with the 3 leaf pack. (not sure about 2011 though I doubt they changed it). You need to perform the "Harsh Ride" TSB to get the 4 pack (3 pack + helper leaf). It's a much better 'truck' ride imo... worth getting done. If you like the car like sponginess though you probably won't like it unless you do haul stuff.

It's optional, and the dealer must agree to do it. If a dealer denies you, try another, ect ect. Some dealers are really good about it, some are dicks about it. TSB's are not recalls, but something to direct the dealer to a known issue 'that some people have and some don't' so they know the procedure and parts that are offically used by Toyota to fix it. A recall is no questions asked, will be fixed on the spot.

You will come accross hundreds of TSB threads
but you will also come across many other topics you haven't even thought of yet.

The problem with doing this is you find all sorts of neat mods and upgrade ideas also... it's addicting.

You're not kidding! I have spent hours and hours on here already. My wife thinks I've lost it!

 

Just bought mine last month and has 3 leaf pack. I would recommend driving the truck before u have leaf springs replaced. If u don't plan on towing heavy loads for long distances then u my be happier with 3 springs. Once their replaced u won't be able to change back on toyotas dime if u are not happy. I am going to hook u trailer with my 4wheeler this weekend to see what the load does to springs. i actually love the way the truck rides now and like the current stance. i've heard the new springs add about 1" to the rear so the look will be forked. hope this helps.

 

I have a 2010 and it still has the 3 leaf pack. I drove it for 3 months to make sure I really needed the TSB and after hauling a load of firewood and other stuff I decided I needed it. Print out the TSB and take it to the dealer and don't take their shit. Read it carefully so when the say something stupid you are prepared. Good luck with the new truck. So far I love mine.
