No. Those item numbers correspond to LED bulbs that should not be run in Halogen reflectors.

Note that I would not recommend Opilux or PIAA products.

Yea if you shop around for them its a bit deceiving, for example rally lights site show a picture of a glare cap bulb but if you look closely; the ones it the package picture do not have the cap. I think jegs site has the same error. Sorry to derail the thread.

I was kind of wondering if that was where you were going next. I had that same thought pop in my head as I was looking at H9 bulbs the other day. Ill be honest, I am not sure where to start so I will be awaiting your results.

What about the Chinese Orsam Fog Breakers in H11? Although,I think you have said in the past to stay away from the Chinese Orsam's.

 

Don't know about the Orsam bulbs but I know it was said to stay away from the Chinese Osram ones. LOL

I knew I was missing one. Those would be another option. In general I would avoid Chinese products if there is a similar one made elsewhere of higher quality. I do have some Xencn (Osram China company) bulbs I’ve tried/ordered because specific traits I was looking for were not available in other bulbs, like higher power 70w H9s and 2300k interference H9s.

I’ll need to experiment with making my own H9 glare caps with the same stuff the professional commercial applications use.

 

Those appear to be cheap, coated bulbs (i.e., junk).

Please stop trying to sort wheat from chaff on eBay. Review the solid advice/reviews provided in this and the The ultimate headlight upgrade H4 (not LED or HID) threads, decide what upgrade path you want to follow, and search for the specific parts recommended on that path.

I guess I'm confused about the use of the term "glare cap" - or even the need for it. The H9 bulbs are typically found in a headlight application - and they come standard issue without the caps. When the H9's are fitted into the Taco OEM auxiliary light housing, the reflector assembly provides the same cut-off elevation as original. Very difficult to have "glare" above the cut-off..... So the glare must be below the cut off? The lamp openings - center of lense - in my front valence (014 model) - is roughly 25 to 25-1/2 inches off the pavement, and the cut off line is much too high to be effective as a "FOG" lamp. The intent of fog lamps is to cut under the typical fog layer- so these must be auxiliary driving lights. So why not fit them with standard headlight bulbs - H9's? The best "glare' reduction method I can think of - would be to lower the aim point of the auxiliaries - and therefore the cut off.

I think you're mixed up because there are two ways to eliminate glare from the tip of a halogen bulb. (Glare being undirected light.) In more current headlights, there is a glare cap built into the headlight housing that the bulb sits behind. This cap reflects light from the tip of the bulb back at the reflector and thus out in front of the vehicle in the pattern the engineers designed. Since the glare cap is built into the housing, there is not need to add a painted on glare cap on the bulb.

This brings us to the other way to prevent glare from the tip of a halogen bulb - by adding a painted on a glare cap. This type of bulb is designed to be used in housings that do not have a built in glare cap. The problem arises when you put a bulb with no painted on glare cap into a housing with no built in glare cap. You end up with what I'll just call "undisciplined" light aimed forward which shows up as glare for oncoming drivers. Does that make more sense?

This upgrade will provide much wider pattern coverage and higher raw output, however the stock fog cut offs are not great, meaning it will also increase glare. The ORTown LED pods will have strong cut offs, but less area coverage. If you drive with your fogs on often with oncoming vehicles, the ORTown pods are a better fit.
