Once again to much for that many miles. Unless you need a vehicle that badly I would pass

    My thoughts:

A: Do you research, get your car fax, check all vehicles thoroughly, and give an offer.
B: Dont fall in love with the truck and be ready to walk away if the dealer isnt willing to negotiate.
C: Always know what the dealer's additionall buyer's costs are. Locally (for me), its generally ~$300 extra. Dealers generally don't entertain negotiations on that price but make sure you factor it into your offer (don't let them know you are factoring it in though).

On the trucks, both look clean. $13k is way high for the first. Id pay no more than 10k for it. $8900 for the second truck is still a bit high but more realistic; I would be carefull of getting an auto with those miles though; make sure you test for slipping gears or sloppy shifting.

I would try to purchase the 1st truck as it will hold value better with the lower miles.

8900 is way to much for that mileage. If it’s super clean and in excellent excellent shape then I could see 6k tops. But with that mileage you gotta assume it’s gonna need a few things. If it were me I’d offer 5kish but there probably not gonna take that low of an offer but that is realistic in my opinion.

Most smaller mom and pop used car lots will come off about a grand and that’s about it.

The dealer probably owns it for half that. Would need better pics and more info to give advice on that specific truck. As with any 1st gen check the frame thoroughly with a hammer.

This. Ive found that many private owners who take care of their cars generally sell them rather than trading them in. They tend to be very well maintained. And its easy to spot the owners that don't take care of their cars.

More to that, I've found that if they feel you, as the buyer, also know how to properly car for a car, they are willing to drop prices lower.

maybe the dealers have the economics supply/demand curve we are not privy too?

Sure, I'm not knocking the dealer, just "defending" the OP for "picking high priced" trucks.

maybe its high priced and maybe its not, i dunno

a simple curve graph of trucks available in different regions and # interested parties would give us more to work with perhaps

then the psychology will play factors

Good point. OP, check the car fax reports to see when the dealer purchased the trucks. Dealers generally want a quick sell.

If they are less than 30 days on the lot, look a little enthusiastic; you want the truck. They might cut the price for a quick sell. Don't low ball; they wont even entertain.

If they are more than 30 days, the dealers bottom line is going up so he might not want to go too low; however, he's going to want to sell quick before he loses more money. Look less enthusiastic about the truck and more forceful on your offer. He may come down, he may not. You might get lucky with a low ball but not likely.

If the truck has been on the lot for 60+ days, low ball him and see if he's willing to cut his losses and get rid of the truck before he loses more. If he says no, walk away immediately and let him chase you. If he doesn't chase you down, come back in a day or two and make another offer but not enthusiastically. Let him know you are looking at a cheaper truck but kind of want his more. He may be willing to go low to get the sale.

You mean it's a historically accurate summation of true sales ignoring the excessive asking prices seen on craigslist? I agree.

I concur. Nothing out of the ordinary for the age, etc.

I still think 13k is steep. I got my 2001 Prerunner 5VZ (granted not 4x4) TRD OR with 90k miles for $8k about three years ago. CA truck so it's mint as far as fame is concerned.

    I'd offer him/her $10,500

I bought a 1st gen 02 TRD SR5 prerunner with 87k miles last year for $8000 & was happy but then came across a 06 with 124k miles prerunner double cab for $8500 a couple days ago i shoulda bought instead but 13k for a first gen sounds like alot it sounds close to a second gen price

While I'm not a stickler for KBB, fair purchase price is closer to $5-6k. Does it have a CarFax report? How long has the dealer owned it?
