It was all fun and games till those iPads came into play and you had to get a recon to pass safety.

Same lol. My friend would just let me bring in my paper work and give me a sticker. Always hooked him up though.

I’ll leave this here. Directly from the Hidot recon website. Specifically note 2 and 3. Mind you that this applies only if everything else in the suspension is stock (springs and shocks) and if you’re 4wd and as always it’d be up to the interpretation of the safety check station on if they will let you pass since frame height is altered. Also, if anything else on your truck requires recon then you still need to get it. 3C52A904-1457-4734-8F81-501BC9530E11.jpg

Nice find. Hopefully that wasn’t superseded by anything because they don’t tend to update their website as often as I think they should or could.

Good to know tho as I do intend to level my wife’s T4R

Back in the day, I passed with 5100s (set at 0) with 884s. Basically could have passed as stock just changing out the shocks (no recon needed for shocks). But then the snowball of bumper, rear leafs, 885s, etc.. lol

Very valid point cause they also talk about 1 inch diameter and 2 inch wider rim than the stock options does not need recon but bigger than that does

That's the example I was thinking of. It makes sense that they revised that rule. I mean, my wife's T4R has 20" wheels from stock, but if I were to put 20" wheels on a SR5 or OR that came with 17's, it would require recon? Zero sense imo.

Can you provide the source/link of the image, and date it was published?

According to City and County of Honolulu, as of 18 July 2018:

"The most common modification that require a Reconstructed Vehicle Permit are: ...Lowering or dropping a vehicle ...Lifting or raising a vehicle.

    Source is here
    http://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/files/2012/12/HAR19-134.pdf
    Page 8-9.
Suspension system requirements to pass start on page 42.
The way I read it is that just putting in a spacer in the front of an otherwise completely stock suspension of a 4wd vehicle, even though it lifts the front will not have to go through recon provided that everything in the suspension system stays stock and nothing else requires recon. Same for AAL except that looks like it could go for either2wd or 4wd.
Granted it could very well be old info that hasn’t been updated yet but it is what is currently posted on the Hawaii government website.
I also understand that even with it being in writing on the government website, you could go to a safety check station and get denied cause the front bumper height is higher than stock and they just deny you cause they don’t wanna argue or don’t like your face. Happened to me before so take the official info as a definite positively maybe guarantee that they will pass you with no recon. Lol
