washer/dryer help

hey guys, i'll be closing on a house soon and need some feedback. i've never even given washer and dryers a second thought but now i'm in the market and not too familiar. basically, i am most concerned with quality and longevity, and efficiency. as for price, with my discount they are all within $20 of each other, so i'm not concerned about that. i'm solely interested in quality and efficiency. i've got it narrowed down to the following options. any feedback is appreciated

X1.....................best thing you can do........I know I would stay away from the Maytag 3000 series...........the driers tend to rip up clothing........My mother learned that the hard way.......it was one of the 1st things consumer reports said about the 3000 series...........the washer as well had many draw backs...............good luck!

i dont trust CP. i'd rather have actual feedback regarding either brand. i know GE is good. i know samsung makes good phones/TV's etc... but have no idea how their washer dryers are.

 

I bought GE in 99 when I moved into my new house. I replaced them this year. The dryer bearings had gone out, and it was easier/cheaper to replace, as our room mate had a pair that she did not need.

Overall, I was impressed with the GE Units lasting over 10 years.

We have the Samsung (though not the model you listed above) and love the set. No issues so far.

 

We recently bought a Whirlpool Duet Washer and Dryer and my wife LOVES them. They were around $1200 (in Canada) for the pair.

 

Yeah... I have GE front loaders and are great with minimal issues. I havn't a clue about the samsungs. I would stick with the GE's to be safe, but it also doesn't hurt to atleast see what CR is reporting either. Good luck ND!

thanks dude, at least that narrowed down hte list of products i'm not interested in. i'm leaning towards the GE stuff personally

does anyone have any issue wiht front end washers? anything about them i need to watch out for?

 

Make sure that your washer has a relatively high spin speed. This will force more water out of the clothes after being washed and will significantly decrease the drying time which will save you mucho $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

while i was at lowes talking to the sales guy some random dude walked up and pointed at one and asked if i was considering it. i said yeah and he said he has one and loves it. so apparently they have some happy customers out there

yeah, i know GE has a good reputation. unfortunately, i dont think anyone make them like they use to. my parents still use the same set they got 30 years ago when they got married. the dryer has been rebuilt once or twice but nowadays it seems cheaper to replace them than to fix them. i'm running into the same issue with riding mowers. seems like back in the day they were made like mini tractors, now they are more like throw away toys.

i work at GE so i get a good discount on the washer dryer set. i'm leaning towards them but the samsungs are about the same price. maytag seemed a little steaper and were less attractive.

i know LG makes a lot of good stuff, but we've used their TV's alot at work and have run into alot of issues and as a result, i have a bitter taste in my mouth when it comes to LG. i know the TV design and washer dryer design teams are completely different and manufactured completely differently, but as a company they have kind of turned me off because of their TV's.

 

yeah i noticed dryers aren't rated as energy star unless they are gas powered. from what i can tell spin rate and drum size directly relate to how effecient they are. the bigger the drum size the more hot air and the faster things dry. makes sense when you think about it.

 

all i did was copy and paste. its not my fault bob's site is defective.

so, in your opinion, which one holds up to fire and golf ball attacks better?
