I have had to meet the sheriff's dept and social services over this.... that's a whole other f'n story.
He was 8 and I was fishing at a park lake.... 80 or so acres of park/lake. My son took his bike and rode to the playground.... a good distance away out of my sight. Every hour I would go drive down and check on him and make sure he was ok... if he needed food or water. He was down there for about 3 hours. The 3rd time I pull up there are 4 sheriff cars sitting there and as I pull up I see one cop has my kid. I park, jump out and start to walk to him and I get stopped by 3 other officers, placed in hand cuffs and searched.
Some fucking helicopter mom had called in a abandoned kid. As I am sitting there being questioned 8 ways from Sunday, I ask.... so when am I allowed to let him play at the park without supervision? They really didnt have a answer, but mumbled something about 12 and how dangerous the world is, blah, blah yadda, yadda!!! I looked at them and said that's why the statistics show that 98 percent of all harm comes from people he already knows, ministers, teachers, uncles etcc...
I was let go, but after being detained for a hour and half.
Then came the social services visit because the sheriff notified them of bad parenting
It was a bullshit meeting and I posed the same question to her about when can I let him play unsupervised.... her answer was, it's a judgment call.
Fuck all them nosey mofo's out there
If you see a kid by himself and playing with other kids... leave him alone, offer him food, water... treat them like one of your own, parents will either come get him or he will go home.

Holy crap, this sounds exactly like my 7/8th grade years. Even the name of our hang out was "the spot", and built just the same way, and did the exact same stuff. Except I was 3000 miles away in NJ.
I thought I was reading my childhood right there.
