Rear Door Component Speakers?

I'm planning on installing component speakers up front on my third gen, and until recently was thinking coaxial in the back. but I recently found a good deal on two sets of component speakers and was wondering if there was a good place to mount the tweeters in the rear doors on a third gen. Or maybe not in the doors, maybe the rear pillars?

Also, for installing components up front, should I pull out the stock tweeters and replace them with the component tweets. This would require running new wiring up to the dash from the crossover. Or should I leave the factory ones in and install the new component tweeters elsewhere.

I'm planning to run all the speakers and one 10" woofer from a single 5 channel amp if that changes any of these answers.

 

Run the new tweeters. Remove the old junk. As far as the rear components, does these components have a coaxial mounting option(allows the tweeter to be mounted as if it was a coaxial). If not, you can drill a new hole in the door panel(I wouldn't unless you want to). I'm running a similar setup, components up front, coaxials in the rears, 10in low pro sub, all running off a 5ch amp.

 

That was my plan originally I am just assuming the crossover in a set of component speakers will be significantly better than a set of coax.

 

And they don't have a coax mounting option but i could make something..... you think that would make them sound significantly worse if they were colocated?

 

Im thinking the along the lines of a clean no cut install and rear speakers is you know, just rear fill. If you can find a creative of mounting the tweeter without interfering w the mid bass then by all means. They’ll sound fine, its just rear fill.

 

I would sell the second pair of comps and install coaxials in the rear.

 

Maybe a dumb question, but can I mount my 6.5” component speaker in the back and the tweeters in the dash still? Do they have to be wired together?

I put tweeters in the rear pillars, sounds great.

 

That has never occurred to me. Interesting....

 

so there's nothing wrong with using the tweeters up front and the midrange in the back, but you will need to get the crossover installed up front to prevent the tweeters from getting bass frequencies.

 

The tweeters have an inline crossover…at least I think that’s what it’s called..

 

which model are you looking at?

so far, all my answers have been generic, as typical component sets include 3 pairs of gear. a woofer, tweeter, and a crossover unit.

it's not at all typical that any aftermarket tweeter to have a crossover built into it.

 

They are the Pioneer 6 1/2” component car speakers, model# TS-A653CH

 

A quick description of the crossover for the tweeters on Crutchfield’s website-

 

i see. yes, those are one of the very few speakers that have an integrated crossover on each part of the set.
