Its an option most dont consider when building a rear bumper. Channel iron of any size is way cheaper than square or rectangular tubing, and has a thicker wall. I bought the channel from a steel dealer's overstock pile for pennies on the pound cause some guy with deep pockets ordered a pallet of it and never picked it up . All the extra trim pieces I got out of a scrap yard for less than $5. I was all in for $120 including paint. (Didnt include my dads tetanus shot, long story there). Built most of it at work over 2 thirty minute lunch breaks. 0527181446a.jpg

oh yeah, lol. It's just welded onto the ends of where the stock bumper used to be, what @Blue92 is describing sounds like a better/safer way to do it. I wouldn't ever consider using my rear bumper for recovery, would probably get pulled right off. I use the tow hitch receiver for that.

Yeah mine uses 3"x1/4" angle straight off the frame for mounts. Uses stock bolt holes. 0525181422c.jpg

Looks good. Is the hitch welded on rated the same as a normal tow hitch?

Looks similar...mine was just the bumper though, welded to the existing bumper brackets where the stock bumper was cut off. Since yours has it's own brackets it looks definitely stronger.

Lol. "Rated." Im a red neck with a welder, aint nobody got time for ratings. I wouldnt tow with it, but it holds a bike rack with 2 bikes just fine. All I ever planned on using it for. I did multiple passes at 24 volts (quite a bit) with the mig welder at work. 0525181056.jpg

yeah...those are basically old school Icons, Donahoe Racing became Icon after the owner of DR got busted for child porn back in like 2007 or sometime around then.

Anyway yeah I'd say it's a step up above OME. They're rebuildable just like any other Icon, Fox, King, etc. coilover

Figured it would be the same as any other aftermarket integrated hitch, just good enough for like a cargo rack or bike rack.

They just give a little extra droop over normal ones. You can have the rebuilt with the shorter travel

Do you know if the Donahoe's are 2.5 or 2.0s? Either way they'll be better than OME, OME is a good setup but it's not considered a performance setup and they aren't rebuildable.

I wonder if the DR's are digressive like Icons are, I would assume so? So generally speaking they might feel a little stiff on the street but they get plush when driven hard offroad

Most companies use a similar bumper mount/reciever setup so yes, youre right. I wouldnt tow with it for others' safety if it should fail, but I bet it would do fine pulling a small u haul or something. My welds have been put through hell at work, nothing has ever come back to be redone so far. And 24 volts was spray-arcing. Wire melted before it even touched the steel. A lot hotter than I normally weld at work which is around 20 volts give or take 1 or 2.
