My new sub install 05+ double cab (pics)

What’s up TW! I’ve been having my head unit, front components, rear speakers, and amp installed for about two years now. My initial plan was to buy the JL Stealthbox sometime down the road, so I installed my amp and crossover network behind the driver rear seat compartment area. This would leave the passenger rear side free and ready for the future JL Stealthbox.

Well, I recently decided to save some money and just build my own box. This box would fit behind the passenger rear seat the same way the JL Stealthbox would. So I picked up an Alpine Type-S 1043, terminal cup, ¾ mdf, carpet, and contact adhesive and went to work.

I got most of the box built and cut all the backing off the factory passenger rear bezel. The box will sit in this bezel.



Installed box front face and recessed and cut the hole for the sub.


Installed rear bezel back in the truck after applying SecondSkin sound deadener throughout the rear of the cab.


Mounted the sub to the box, and installed in the truck for a quick fit and sound test. Happy with the results. Still needs some tuning...


Pulled the box back out to start carpeting. Brushed on the DAP contact adhesive. Started with the front face and worked my way around.


Glued the sides last. Here’s the left side cut for a seamless fit.


Glued the right side and installed the terminal cup.


Installed the box back in the truck after carpeting.



Finally finished!

 

Looks great. There's no way I would have considered buying a box if I had your skills. Looks real clean. I probably would have gone for black carpet to look more stealth though.

 

Thanks man! Between the time I started my system install two years ago and now, I got into woodworking and started building up my arsenal of tools (ongoing). If I knew what I know now, I wouldn't have thought of buying a box either. I originally wanted to go black carpet. I went to Home Depot hoping they'll have it, but they didn't! They only had this grey. I didn't want to spend anymore time driving around looking for black carpet at the audio shops around. All good tho
