Any plumbers here?

Wife wanted the bathroom redone, i didnt...so the bathroom is now gutted down to subfloor and studs.
Old tub/shower was a one peice fiberglass unit, went to put in a standard bathtub and hit a snag.
The drain for the old bathtub is 2 inches above the level of the floor, too high for the new tub.
The existing drain pipe for the tub is fucky, it goes over top of a floor joist, so the tub drain kits from home depot/ lowes wont even work
Anyone have suggestions before a professional gets called?

What is moving it the right going to do??
It's still to high and the joist is still in the way.
The holes need to be lowered 2 inches.
Remove the pipe and coupling it lower. It's the cutting into or coring a hole on the joist I am unsure about. If so may need framing for support

Notch the floor joist, it will be fine as long as you keep it as small as possible.

Build a platform for the tub to sit on.

The joist can only be notched if it is close to the load bearing support, notching the middle 1/3rd section is a no-go. Even if you are in the green zone to notch, I'd recommend reinforcement by sandwiching it in metal stock.

 

If you don’t want to notch it drill a hole.

Ugh. Way more headaches than you want to deal with. I installed one in my house.

This would only be acceptable under certain circumstances and peramiters.
Not recommend.

Depends on where or if you have walls underneath, and the size, location of the hole and your floor joists. It can be done though. Drilling a hole in the floor joist is possible but it looks like you would have to move the whole stack, Tee and vent down.

This is an option if you want to scotch the tub up off the floor.


If it were me, I would cut all that out and figure out drilling a hole in the floor joist if it is feasible.

 

What size are your floor joists?

You got that right JaCado, doing this for over 20 yrs. drill a hole or notch it, that’s hows it’s done. The only problem I see is that his trip lever waste is all glue so no adjustability. Might have to cut it out and get a Gerber trip lever waste kit, all depends on how the tub lays out.

 

Well then go help him out. I’m a licensed plumber here and asked for a reason .

I wouldn’t notch it. Drilling a hole would be better. In center area of joist but I’ve been away from “cottage” plumbing for decades
