What rear shock would you guys recommend for stock leafs with progressive AAL? Looking for a good ride or at least improvement over stock.

95% of the time truck is unloaded in rear except for tonneau cover and some gear. Daily driver. Other 5% of time I'm hauling camper in summer.

Read that the OME are a little harsh and Icons are stiff.

I think the biggest impact to a good ride is the AAL itself... am I wrong? That's a lot of stiffness you're adding the springs back there.

I have Icon 2.0" in the rear with the 3-leaf AAL, and yeah, it's a little stiff, but I always assumed that had a lot to do with the AAL rather than just the shocks.

A single leaf perhaps but from what I've read it's decent

Leaning towards Fox at this point. I had 5160s on my 2nd gen but was not impressed with corrosion on the shock body within months. Anyone running this set up? 3 AAL and fox?

Check out Dobinsons MRR and there leaf packs. I have the heavy packs and even before i had weight on them they rode great.

Never heard of these guys before but the color of their springs seems oddly familiar.

Still waiting on someone with Fox and 3 AAL to pipe up.....

Or anyone who has gone from the progressive AAL to a full pack replacement (ie OME). would appreciate the feedback on differences between the two

Went from 3 leaf progressive to RXT leaf pack, 5160's on as well. But like you mentioned if you don't treat them, they will corrode fast.

I had the icon 3 leaf aal with their 2.0 shocks and I found it to ride pretty smooth on road and real real nice off road, until I broke the stack.. was a way better ride than stock

I have a 3 leaf AAL from Head Strong Offroad and the Fox 2.0 non adjustable reservoir shock. Even with a topper on I find it too stiff. I have an Icon RXT leaf pack waiting to go in and I might pop for fox extended 2.5 DSC's from Accutune to replace the 2.0's

Thanks. Did you notice any difference going to the full pack replacement? I guess you had the 5160s before on the progressive pack also so it would be an apples to apples comparison of the different leafs

Yes, ride is superior over the progressive add a leaf pack. Handles better, with and without weight/trailer on it. Added 6160 at the same time add a leaf, and then which to RXT (option 2) 6 month's later. It's the 15 TRD PRO suspension 6112/5160 set-up.

I got an AAL with my 5100s. It does ride a lot stiffer, not horrible, but I would prefer something a little smoother.

Ran a single 2" AAL for 3k before it was replaced with a full HD Dakar leaf pack.

Single AAL rode and towed like ass. I only had a fiberglass tonneau at the time and was unloaded. The ride is much smoother and not as harsh with a full leaf pack now. Oh well, live and learn. Heed my warnings and get a full leaf pack replacement. AAL, whether single or progressive are shit no matter what. The problem is the Toyota leafs are shit. Once you remove and toss them away, everything will ride smoother and be a lot better.

I whiched from 3 leaf progressive to full pack, because 3 leaf progressive was to soft for my needs. Single leaf is much stiffer than a 3 leaf progressive. I have had single in past, on another truck.
