Before I go doing something crazy, thought I would ask for some advice and see if anyone ran into this issue before. I’m running a Demello front bumper and it uses the 3 studs on each side, where the OEM crash bar was mounted, and a fabricated bracket with 2 additional bolts. Well one of the studs is officially stripped. Looks like I can push the stud through and get a new one but some say it’s welded which I couldn’t tell. Didn’t want to start hammering if that really doesn’t work. My other thought was re-thread it a size down with a die and get a new nut. Has anyone dealt with this and have any advice?

If anything I think that stud may be tack welded, but should be able to hammer it out without much problem and replace with a new one.

I agree. I would start with the hammer. If it wont budge, then you may need to remove the piece and apply a good amount of heat to it and whack it out.

I’d replace all 6 studs with some gr 10.9 12mm bolts of the correct length with flat washers and locknuts as the studs are too short for that bumper bracket.

Looking at the one with the nut on it, it’s obvious that the nut is only part way on the threads and part way over the smooth shank on the end of the stud.

Thanks for the great info. Probably a good idea but the bracket that wedges the bumper on actual does all of holding of the bumper to be honest. It’s pretty stout. You can only see a side view but the bracket goes underneath too and has two bolts going through. Just want to make it a simple fix. Even without the nut, the bumper doesn’t budge, just don’t want to take any risk in case I hit something.

Tony at kore is a good guy and does nice work. I have som of his products.

I just did this. 1/2 inch grade 8.

    8933FA27-D133-4C42-9684-CE4751222E0D.jpg

Might be overkill for you and maybe even me.

You would probably be fine without that stud/nut on there. Looks like you got the side brackets on there.

That stud is tack welded on. Not going to tap it out with a hammer unless you grind the weld off.

4 inch angle grinder fits in there no problem. That one is easy, the inside ones suck.

Easy fix. Grind it off and throw a bolt in.

I would chase that with the same size die first to see if I could recover what's there before I started with a hammer...

The studs look to short for the thickness of the bumper brackets . the thread size and pitch is 10mmX1.25mm the best option is to grind off the welds and then put new longer bolts in .

Thanks everyone for all of your advice. I think I’m gonna give re-threading a try first since the bracket does hold it down pretty secure. If that doesn’t work then I’ll knock out the bolt stud which sounds like it can be a little more than just hammering. Although the Kore plate looks tempting, not sure if I’m ready to have someone weld a plate on yet. Looks 100x sturdier though. Might just replace the same stud from the factory at that point but we’ll see. Appreciate everyone’s feedback and thanks for letting me know about the weld.

@4x4yotaphan the frame plates reinforces the whole area, that party of the frame is ridiculously thin, you can bend it with pliers! Let me know if you need anything.
