That's a problem. the insurance companies don't fight these cases.
My wife turned a corner, and in the middle of the road was a stopped sedan with the female driver shouting a conversation to an occupant on the third floor balcony of an apartment building. My wife slammed her brakes, almost stopped in time, but cracked the sedan's taillight. The female driver exited the car, and commenced screaming at my wife, strutting around and shouting F Bombs at her.
But, as soon as the responding police car came into view, she "collapsed" at the base of a tree and said she was unable to move.

In the course of the case, by mistake, the woman's back X-rays and doctor's report were delivered to our home! The report stated there were signs of an old back injury but nothing new. A couple of times I was in contact with the insurance company and I demanded to be notified of the court date for her claim so I could be present. They assured me I would be notified. I never was notified of the date, but they did notify me that the day the case was due to be heard, they settled with her for a nuisance claim of $32,000. To say the least, I was not happy.

I asked an adjuster and an agent. Both said the same thing. 4k for a curtain. 1.2k per single bag. Adds up way faster than a headlight.

That's not what you said. They are expensive, but they don't automatically mean a vehicle is totaled.

Hey guys, first place I took it to was a Ford Body Shop that State Farm had as their “select” provider. The guy wasn’t finished with the estimate, but said so far he was at $7,000 in damages. I honestly got the feeling that he wanted to work on it, didn’t want to total it, and was trying to maximize his money without declaring the vehicle a total loss. They also said it would take 8 weeks to fix....seemed very sketchy to me.

I had the truck towed to a Toyota Dealership Bodyshop (it was a 90 mile tow, which came out of my pocket, which is why I went with State Farm’s recommendation first.) The Toyota Dealship has seen the photos and previous report and seems to think it’s totalled.

I will definitely keep you guys up to date.

To the guy who made the statement, “I don’t understand why people waste their time with these totaled posts”...it’s because I’ve never been in a wreck and I wanted valued opinions from other Tacoma owners who may have been in a similar situation, while waiting on the appraisal. You sure sound like you’d be fun at parties. I never understand why people like you comment just to be negative.

To be honest, the guy who posted it literally said he wasnt asking that question as a plan of attack. Its a valid question. Why not just deal with insurance because we can only give speculation here.

Lets not bash on eachother or be over sensitive about what people say on the internet. It was a valid question.

I live in West Virginia my self and every time it snows people either flip out or feel the need to run 100 when the roads get bad

Why are you asking a forum? Ask your insurance adjuster, then get paid for a new truck.

now you know why the first body shop was the insurance companies preferred vendor. Sketchy mf.
Good luck OP. Post photos of your new rig when you get it.

    Hey guys, OP here.

Finally got the word that it’s totaled today!!! Over $28k worth of damage after they broke it down. It needed an entirely new frame.

I got a check for $37k. I’m pretty happy. I only owed $25k, so I’m coming out pretty good.

I do have some advice I can give to those who may read this thread in the future:

    1) Dont let people on this board be Debbie Downers about your truck. No one really knows just how bad the damage is until they break the vehicle down. However, visual appraisals form members on this board will give you a great idea on an “at least/minimum” amount.

    2) Never take the first offer from the insurance agency. I didn’t. I argued my case and got an extra $5k.

    3) Never take the first appraisal either. My first appraisal was $7k of damage. I knew that was BS. My second one was $22k at a Toyota Body Shop. The third and final appraisal I asked for was after the truck was torn down, and came in over $28k. Moral of the story, don’t let them take advantage of you.

Thanks for all the help guys. I truly appreciate all of your kind words and support.

Good to hear they totaled that out man. After seeing that square stamp mark in the cab behind the rear door along with all the rest of the damage I figured it would total out. Thanks for those insurance tips too hope I never need them tho!

You need to find a new set of friends. In my circle nobody would do that because it's not right.

You gotta watch out for Karma.
I've had two car crashes where I was slammed in the back at a stop light. A lingering neck injury from the first one, it took years to heal and become pain-free.
Second time, re-injured same neck area. Went to Doctor, he prescribed heat, stimulation, and massage for 6 weeks. Each time I went he advised me to get a lawyer. I finally said "OK" and voila! he pulls out a lawyers business card from his desk. I wound up getting $4,000 and about a month later, I get an unexpected unrelated tax bill for... exactly $4,000!

I want to stress that I was legitimately injured and in constant pain, I wasn't playing games, but suing was against my instincts and I gave in to the ambulance chasers.
