Well I delayed the process myself this time. Last minute I had the builder coat the pistons and do a pocket port-R on the heads. I must be a glutton for punishment being cooped up in my house all day with no truck. Luckily though the engine builder sent me these glamour shots

Just found this thread nice build, but what did I miss between new turbos/manifold to completely new block/engine? Did it blow was that the aftermath the oil in the turbos?

So after everything went on the first time the motor gave up. Wasnt an issue with any of the stuff but was a bad design by Ford. Because it's GDI and an early GDI, carbon can sometimes build up in the ringland grooves and prevent the rings from letting oil through them. Which is what happened to my #1 and #2 cylinders and caused the failure. This all started because I was going to put coilovers on my truck for my birthday and was on my way to @Texoma house. About 30 minutes from his house I heard a noise when I was blasting my music. I turned it down to hear the noise and it was the drivers turbo sounding like a plastic bag over the intake side. I look in my rear view mirror and I am covering a four lane highway with thick white smoke. I managed to limp it to Chris' house where we pulled the dipstick and the oil cap off and nothing but white smoke come out and the block is empty. When the motor gave it evacuated all the oil out the driver's side pcv system which runs directly through the turbo. That's how the white smoke was coming out of the tail pipe, it immediately emptied the block. So long story short, motor was trash and I had to build a new one :) I wasnt planning on this to happen but I was already prepared and knew where I was having it built.

I'm the kind of guy that believes if I am going to fix it why spend the more money at the dealership when I can get it done cheaper and modify it. :notsure:

Ouch but I'm excited to see the new build. Was considering a used ecoboost 3.5 or 2.7 before I ended up with my taco.

Had a ranger 3.0 for 20 years! Loved that truck.

If I was going to buy used I would go with the 17+ 3.5. It's not only GDI but Port injected too so you dont have to worry about the carbon build up. AAANNNNDDD all you need to do is put a tune on it and your getting like 500+ Rwhp and Rwtq. I had to upgrade a lot of stuff and I barely came close to those numbers. And dont get me started on the Raptor!

I loved my Tacoma but I didnt do a lot of off-roading and wanted a bigger truck for one day babies :bananadance:

Haha I got the Tacoma because I had a baby the back seats in the ranger supercab were sideways and didn't fit a carseat. Mustang also was sold because squeezing in the carseat wasn't very easy...

Raptor yeah I definitely would love that but I haul too much cargo for the suspension to be a long travel/desert racer type. Maybe when I retire I can finally have a full on raptor.

Looking forward to rest of your build and thanks for the advice. I think I'm probably set for trucks for 10-20 years though. I tend to keep them forever.
