Welllll, unless something goes horribly wrong, I've got a truck I like with a $5k discount, and something approaching acceptable on my trade-in.
I have to swallow unwanted options, but maybe I can sell or trade to get what I want.
It doesn't hurt that I planned my withholding just right, and got a healthy chunk of change back.

The only problem might be the financing. If there's a penalty for paying off early, I'm walking out.
I refuse to give a bank money for nothing when I have cash.
Now I have to sit here until it arrives.

I have never seen a dealer charge for the free 2 yr/25,000 mile ToyoCare.

 

I just meant they are not giving it for free. I'm sure they roll that cost into the price of the truck. It may not show as a added line item however the consumer pays for it one way or a another.

 

I got a used 2016 TRD offroad with 20k miles in it, full service history, all done at Toyota dealers, clean carfax. For 29950.. truck was nearly immaculate, no scratches... just a few scratches in he bed..

Last time I bought from a dealer (used) I had my checkbook out. When they showed up with the final papers that had the 'dealer fee' on it, I put my check book away and stood to leave. Suddenly the price dropped the amount of the 'dealer fee'.

I did manage to get a couple things off (things which were on the quote, but not on the truck!) and a $5000 "discount" in exchange for signing up for a really expensive loan. Joke's on them when I pay off the loan on the first payment. Damn this is grueling. But at least the truck is sweet.

Maybe I can trade the running boards to someone who wants them.

 

Get financing secured outside the dealer before you buy. I have >800 credit rating and they were trying to give me 6% on my 2016 taco thru Toyota. I laughed at them and took the 1.9% I got from my bank. They will try to get you every step of the process.

 

Glad you’re sensible to your budget. I saved up for 15 years to get what I wanted. And for 35 years I just drove what I could afford.
