Big difference in running a 8 inch ring gear locked full time with 33s with 2.5 times the power. Can it be done? Yes, under a alwats cognizant mind.

Roughly 80 miles into the 1.05 87 base, and I’m digging it a lot.
    I’m also geared with 4.88’s.

Passing slow vehicles on the highway is a breeze without hitting s4, and I can actually climb minor/moderate hills in 5th for once (which was my biggest complaint).

We’ll see how she does loaded for camping before I even decide on flashing the performance tune. Give me another month and I can update that since I plan on driving thru a major elevation change while being loaded with coolers and fishing crap

Many people are experiencing the low rpm stumble. Mat said it may be due to the torque converter but isn’t sure. He told me via zendesk he is working on a tune fix but it isn’t released yet. I believe this is happening on more trucks than are reported because some people are just less sensative to it.

I do have experience that "bumpy road feeling" mostly uphill and low rpm with 91 performance tune. When that happened use S-mode as well.

Edit- im 265/70/17 ko2 and tip feels great(thats what she said). I could see it maybe being harsh for a lighter stock tire?

@OVTune There has been a lot of talk of updating to the latest TSB, using Techstream, in this thread. (04B04 I believe, correct me if I am wrong) Is it your recommendation to upgrade? Or would you recommend people stay at their current version, assuming they are happy with it? In my case that would be 04B02.

If you can, do it. If not then just wait for the tune. But if you do it, youll get the tune sooner as its already available for 04B03.

Highway driving characteristic between 91 base and 91 performance is different. Granted I only had 91 performance on my truck for 2 days. Absolutely cannot stand the tip-in. I think it is dangerous driving in snow/icy roads. That was MY experience with 91 performance, plenty of OVT customers love the performance tunes.

Back to highway driving. With 91 base, truck is much more willing to downshift to 5th on hills to maintain speed. Say I'm doing 65mph uphill, truck slows down, I press skinny pedal slightly, truck unable to maintain speed, it will promptly downshift to 5th to maintain speed. Same behavior when faced with headwind/crosswind conditions. Before you ask, it is downshifting to 5th, not TC unlocking, according to OBD Fusion.

With 91 performance, say I'm doing 65mph uphill, truck slows down, I press skinny pedal slightly, truck unable to maintain speed, it takes longer compared to 91 base before downshift to 5th. I could be doing 60-62 before truck will downshift. I feel like there is a small "dead zone" in the pedal, truck slows down, I press skinny pedal down little bit, nothing, press down little more, finally downshifts to 5th.

I prefer the highway driving characteristic of 91 base, the 6-5 shift is so smooth, sometimes I don't even notice it. I rather the truck shift to 5th and maintain speed, then keep 6th and loose speed.

    @SpeySquatch

yep - plenty of power. No issue holding speed and passing up mountain passes - using S mode and locking it down to no higher than 5th gear. So far I would say the new version of 1.05 base on 04B04 is better than prior 1.05 on 04B03. Used some of the skinny pedal today merging with traffic and the response tip-in is way better - no way you could floor it as it has way more getup and go. Very impressed. Power towing seems to kick in just below 3000 and still kicking in mid to upper 4's. I drive with a light foot so I seldom run it past 5k.

Finally got the first tune downloaded to my truck ( 1.05 91 performance on 2018 TRD OR with 265/75/16 ST Maxx tires). Only driven a few miles, but I can definitely tell there’s been a change for the better. Tip in seems fine to me. Truck definitely has more pick-up. Will post a detailed review after a couple of tanks of gas to make sure it’s settled.

Has anyone noticed a decrease in mpg from going from the initial 1.05 to the updated 1.05? I've consistantly been getting 17+ with the initial realease 1.05, now with the updated 1.05 I'm getting 14 mpg with the same driving conditions. Same 87 base tune for both versions.

if you are using the performance tune you will see a dip in mpg until you get use to the throttle response. On the highway I was seeing an increase an mpg, but in commuting/traffic/stop-n-go I've seen 15-17

I only use the 87 base for both tune files.

Any temperature changes to coincide with it? Warm up time makes a big difference, and I don't mean just idling. I get better MPG on a trip when its 40F out or above than when its 20F out. My theory is the longer it takes to get to operating temp, the worse the MPG is. Granted you showed whole tanks so maybe temp change isn't it.

in that case after 300 miles you should see it come back up to norm if not better. This is the case for all tunes.

I managed to get 12mpg with the performance tune (as my lowest mpg yet) because I was having too much fun when the tune was brand new. Im finding that if I get the truck up to speed then let off the throttle to maintain speed rather than slowly getting to speed I get noticeably better mileage.

Yeah, I'm going to give it another tank to see if it is just a anomaly. That's why I'm just asking around to see if other members are seeing the same.
