I had the dealer to install a (Toyota) brand hood deflector that has the metal clips. I am concerned about down the road...the clips may wear through the protective tape and get into the paint.
Do any of you guys know of a better tape (type) product out there that would add better or be of greater protection to the paint?
I like the way this deflector looks on my truck...

    Thanks

Most of the deflectors wear on the paint from what I've seen. Mine did (wasn't dealer though, was AVS). Mine also threw bugs INTO my windshield instead of deflecting them. Same with pebbles...

I took mine off after about a year of use. It really didin't make any difference in the amount of bugs hitting the windshield and it made the truck look like poopy.

    None yet! It's new!
Had the Toyota one on my '96 for 14 years. If it's the same as that one, no problem. There were stick-on rubber bumpers that kept it away from the paint. I had to replace the rubber bumpers once, but other than that, no problem.

you should probably remove it. I've had mine since my truck was brand new... and thats the mod that i regret the most. not only did it eat away the paint but under the metal clips it started to rust and bang against the top of my grill. . . not worth it. I have to leave mine on for now until i have enough to repaint the two rust spots.

My '05 had one of those deflecters on it when I bought it. A bird hit it and broke part of it off so I removed it only to discover the paint was worn right off under the metal clips. Never getting anything like that mounted on anything ever again, it sucks.

I like the way the deflector looks...if just they had a better tape or something of sorts under the clips for better protection. I went to take the clips out from under the hood this morning and the freakin screws would not thread out. Stripped in the the plastic anchors.... I will leave it alone for now....suppose I could just pull them out....but don't want to make matters worse the way it happens to me..lol

JEA86.....inlaws used to live in Mullens awhile back. Beautiful country....

I used to have the smoked OEM deflector but replaced it with a clear AVS deflector and I am very pleased that I did. The AVS one screws from the inside under the hood so nothing on the outside or on top of the hood. Here is a pic but the deflector is kinda hard to see since its clear!!
