Front end noise after 2.5” lift HELP

I’ll retorque everything first. What type of UCAs you got? I’ll regrease those too.

And alignment plays a big part when you lift your truck. What happened with the CMC? They did a horrific job?

 

Sloppy weld, sloppy paint.. I’ll post pics later.. it can be re ground and repainted but it’s ridiculous.. i went to pick it up and they told me they need it it another day cuz it was rubbing pretty bad on driver cab mount but i had plenty of clearance on passenger.. i asked well ‘where are my alignment specs?’ None could be provided.. they ended up banging the plate back with a hammer into the body mount bushing/washer to make room instead of checking the alignment..

 

I have a similar sound that started about a month ago. But I've had my lift on for 10 years and haven't changed anything recently besides a new battery. Actually - new CV axles about 5 months ago (9k miles). Had a tear in one of the boots. For me - I was thinking needle bearing but could just be something needs to be re-torqued. I never needed to do the ECGS bushing even after 10 years of 2.5" lift. Probably should have done it when the axles were replaced. Same popping/knocking sounds and also some grinding noise while breaking. Only hear the grinding at 10-15mph while turning. Going to be replacing my 10 year old ICONs with Fox coilovers (already ordered). Keeping an eye on this thread for solutions. Will let you all know if I ever find out what's causing my noises.

 

That sucks man. Hopefully you get it all worked out. Especially since your truck is brand spanking new!

 

Could it be the body mounts?? Sloppy CMC job.. mashed the washers against the cmc plates?

 

I dont think so, but hell anything is possible with the hack job they did. I am still going to go with CV joint, inner or outer or something like lca or lca isnt torqued properly

 

Ok we shall see.. it’s funny how you can almost hear the noise better from inside the cab with the windows shut than with them open.. just dropped it off.. will report back later

Well that shop says it’s the body mount washers chirping and groaning against cmc the plates.. alignment is at factory specs (where it shouldn’t be) not enough caster..


Nothing was done still sitting with the same issues..

I thought about taking my dremel to those washer and cutting 1/8 of an inch off to see if noise goes away..

I if it was a body mount it would probably be worse noise going faster and hitting a bump, pot hole.
Its only when going slow, applying brake and turning, correct?

So, its a reasonable question to ask why the body mount (technically a stationary item) acts that way at that time?? Vs a grinding and popping noise when rolling.
If it a body mount you and someone else could bounce/rock the truck from side to side and replicate the sound without it rolling down the road.

 

True. I can replicate the high pitched chirp from passenger by rocking it. but i haven’t tried anything since the new noise occurred

Thanks @JaCado for all the help and support!! Felt more like a support group for a bit .. pretty sure that’s the sound now whether or not to cut that washer back or have the CMC done proper..

 

Can you just tighten them up and see if that reduces the noise for now.

 

It's the washer chirping on part of the CMC that they "adjusted" with the hammer... I don't think tightening will change that. The washer will have to be cut/changed to a smaller OD or the part they bashed in would have to be bent back out a hair so they don't rub together.

 

Update: i mashed the cmc plates forward driver and passenger 1/32 of an inch.. i am squeak and noise free !!! Geting a real alignment next week to take care of the rub and hopefully recover this CMC!!
