You can use a 16" wheel but it needs to have at max of a 3.75" backspacing in order to fit. Wheel spacer are cheaper than new wheels. 17" wheel need to be 4.75" back spacing. Anything over that the rim hits the spindle

I have 16" rims with 4.5" backspacing and 285/75/16 tires without problems. Its close but it does clear.

Sorry i was mistaken on the backspacing. My bad. I know my stock wheel wouldnt fit without 1.25 spacers. So a 16 with 4.5 should just fit.

Check the torque on the steer stop bolts. Once I retorqued them to 112 ft lbs mine is quiet. Since then I’ve seen that it’s recommended 118 ft lbs. It’s worth a shot!

New to site! Love my 08’ tacoma. I know blocks are frowned upon but, is anybody running the 6.5 Maxtrac spindles with the 4 inch block in the rear on stock leafs. Wondering if this set up leaves you nose high. Hate the bro lean.

The 6.5 kit comes with a spacer for the front to get the extra 2.5"

You're going to want to talk to Marie @HeadStrong Off-Road and swap those out for HS 2" lift coils and 5100s

Running the 4" block out back may introduce axle wrap and to be honest the stock leafs on these trucks are crap (this is my humble opinion)

Just replace your leaf packs with Dakars. You don't have to get the heavy duty ones. Those coupled with a much smaller block would be a better choice (buy once cry once)

Also, what are you currently running as far as suspension front and rear?

My humble opinion again...through time I've come to say these trucks are 2" positive take from the factory (front is ~2 inches lower than rear)

So in theory, a 6.5" front and 4" rear will leave your rear end .5" lower (negative rake/bro lean)

There's so many options it really comes down to how much you're willing to spend.

I would rather see an enthusiast spend a little extra and be happier. But then again it just depends how much that person can afford.

Back to this mysterious clunking thing. Besides the lower bolts on the steering stops or whatever, anything else to check out. As luck would have it, mine started to clunk (most noticeable from drivers). Also have a heinous clunk from the rear. Though I'm fairly certain it's actually my spare tire mechanism as there is no spare in its place at the moment

I’ve got Bilstein 5100’s all around. Front set on 2.5. 1 inch block in rear right now. Thought about getting 4” Maxtrac, set my Bilsteins at 1.75 in front. Wasn’t sure about rear....aal? Don’t really do any off road. Love the look of a lifted Tacoma! Trying to stay married and not spend too much money

In my opinion if you're never going to leave the road don't spend three grand on suspension

    Haha!! I totally understand that.

You could just do the spindles up front and drop your 5100s down a notch or two like you said.

For the rear, I still vote new leaf packs. We are here to help you!

Mine was more noticeable on the driver’s side, but apparently both sides needed to be torqued. The only other things it could be is ball joints are bad or the sway bar links are worn out or possibly wheel bearings. Mine were fine and still did the clunking with the sway bar off, so I reinstalled it and knew the sway bar links were good. Check your ball joints and bearings. Start with the torque of the steer stops first. Let us know what you find!
