Hello long lost older brother, you have a nice clean Taco too! Hard to find the clean ones anymore. I keep mine in the garage so no one steals the catalytic converter.

I had a 84? Tercel for a little while as a beater. My nephew got it from his grand mother to go to collage kept braking down on him.Dumb stuff. I just purchased a 92 4 runner 4 $200. That needed a motor, which I happened to have. Put it together to sell then I felt bad for the kid and gave him the 4runner. His parents were going to junk the Tercel. I said I want it. Gave it a little love, drove it for a couple months and sold it for a thousand. The guy I sold it to drove it for like 2 more years.

Sweet truck for being out in New York, how is the frame, do you Fluid Film it every winter?

This is only my second year with the truck. I drive it sparingly in the winter (laugh it up), but the frame is just now getting to the point where it could use attention before it gets any worse. Not sure what the secret was all these years. It was one owner until just a few years ago in New Jersey. The paint was no where near as nice as it is now when I got it. I resprayed the front end, roof, and the windshield frame, which had developed rust and a leak due to a poor window install at some point.

Just been replacing things as needed and freshening it up! So much character in these early years on top of their bulletproof reliability. This truck loves to be worked on and is the only old car that hasn’t fought me every step of trying to give it a better life lol. Already considering getting another more daily driveable one.

Frame resurface and engine maintenance are on tap for 2019!

My truck is 2.7 4x4 auto with A/C, P/S, and no tach. Had factory CD player too. Not sure what the trigger was for "no tach".

trigger maybe was a non-SR5 or non-3.4 ? ... but I have a '97 SR5 and have no sunroof so i dunno with an automatic ... I had a '95 pre-Taco 4cyl 5sp with no Tach, just a simple no power nothin but steering (thank goodness I had a rear sliding window at least)

perhaps the original owner had it undercoated before they took delivery?

do you have any estimates for that job or are you doing it yourself for the frame cleaning / re-proofing?

My 95.5 was bare bone 4x4 (besides A/C and MT :)). Originally it did not even have a cassette player, just plain AM/FM radio. So it was probably the cheapest 4x4 Ex cab made for California, but still cam with the tach. :notsure:.

By the way the original radio maybe was cute to look at but was useless when I commuted longer distance. I replaced it with original Toyota Cassette player player on Ebay, so I could play my own music and listen audio books.

    upload_2019-3-8_8-15-52.jpg

I used it till it finally broke and started eating tapes. So in 2014 I put double din touch screen unit (Planet Audio P9640B)

    upload_2019-3-8_8-22-16.jpg

that allowed me to add backup camera (removable when towing):

I can only see the Tach as part of the CQ convenience pkg on this ^^^

so if you don't have a tilt steering wheel, digital clock, cruise control or Tripmeter you also have no Tach?

Seems to me in the early years things were sort of ala carte. Seems like my truck was pretty optioned out yet had no rear speakers which I have seen.

Not yet! There is a local guy who owns a metel fab shop that has a stong interest in toyota trucks. I am going to stop over come spring and have him look it over and advise me. If the price is right I will have him fix any trouble areas and I will coat it myself at home.

Yeah I saw it being discussed in someones FS thread awhile back. Nobody aside from one other guy and I had ever seen the rear compartments in place of speakers. Ill post some photos up ASAP!

Count me in. Two compartments on the rear and only two speakers (one in each door). By the way I actually prefer compartments over speakers. Very handy.
