I recently purchased my first Tacoma, a 2019 SR5 RWD. I want to add a travel trailer to complete the set. In retirement my wife and I want to see the country as well as our short trips in AZ. This Tacoma has a listed towing capacity of 6600 lbs and tongue limit of 660 lbs. I am wondering what trailers other Tacoma owners are pulling (ie. weights, axles/suspensions, makes and models). We enjoy the great outdoors and the mountains will be one of our destinations.

    Heya.
The smaller and lighter you keep it the better it will be both on the truck and your nerves .
Mine is a 2500lb A-Frame (Chalet), single axle , brakes, 275+/- tongue wt. Slip streams super good behind the '16 perfectly . My frequent travels include the western 1/3 of the USA , including deserts, mountains, and everything in between . I typically get 18-21 MPG not towing , and 15-17 towing. This '16 is a Access cab TRD Off Road automatic tranny. 6 cyl . Tow package .
This '16 replaced my '02 Tacoma SR5 4x4 access cab . It was a 4 cyl, but manual tranny . The ONLY thing I gained with the 16 was comfort . Seriously. Towability the same. Both the auto and the manual, require power management .
A friend traded his '16 (same basic truck as mine) for a Tundra , as the Tacoma made him miserable towing a 3500lb trailer .
And that's all I have to say about that .

I have a jayco Baja 184bs if I remember right it’s 3200 dry. We loaded it down and the truck for deer camp and ran 50-60 over our mountain pass. My truck is a 05 dclb air bags and a weight distribution hitch. Handled great.

Not a true gooseneck. More of a ball on a crossbar and, best I can tell, unique to the Scamp 19'. The uprights are bolted to two pieces of 60" x 6" x 3/8" flat stock which are fastened to the frame using the stock bed bolts. Works well.

I attached pieces of decking board above the cross bar so that it lined up height wise with the fender wells and then laid 2x6's from the bar to the front of the bed to provide a level platform. This allows just enough room for my Honda genset on the left, a Scepter 5 gallon gas can in the middle and a 45 qt Pelican cooler on the right - all forward of the hitch ball. There's still sufficient clearance for ninety degree turns without the nose of the camper contacting the genny or the cooler.

The initial picture above was taken at Comb Wash, UT when I was testing a new 105 qt Ozark Trail cooler for Walmart and I had to rotate the generator ninety degrees and move the gas can to the left side to get everything to fit. That cooler worked well but I couldn't turn as sharply with this configuration. The Pelican will be used when towing the trailer and the OT when tent camping.

Check out R Pod trailers. I’m towing a model 179, 3240# loaded, 360# tongue weight. Single torsion axle. Tows well, very stable (15” wheels outboard of trailer body)

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
Definitely keep it as small and lightweight as you can be happy in. Try to remember and convince your "other half" that it's for temporary use. That you don't have to bring the house. Once you start to narrow the model down the model, get on the web and find it'd related interest group/forum. All trailers worth the time have one. See what's up with your choice. We looked at the Airstream Bambi 16 but really watched the weight. Even as we ponder getting a new 3rd gen. We decided on the Nucamp T@B mostly on build quality and resale value. They are hard to find "fairly" priced, since most owners are really proud of them. Check out their main group: https://tab-rv.vanillacommunity.com/
